For once USA actually has the better squad than Canada.
Agree. Brett Hull and 1996 Team USA won World Cup of Hockey. Canucks got so pissed because Hull chose to play for USA, they threw baby rattles and toys on the ice up in Montreal during last 2 games. Mike Richter played goalie for USA. He won MVP. Except for Lake Placid in 1980 and WC 1996, USA winning it all has been few and far between.

To me, the final period of a tied hockey game is the most exciting thing in all of sports.
You cannot leave your seat, for fear of missing the play that determines the game.
My son played a number of sports, but watching him play hockey was easily the most enjoyable.

NBA was being roasted on ESPN radio just now. Hockey players are literally fighting for their country while basketball players tried to cheat the Skills competition.

It's hard to argue against it. I've never been much of a hockey fan and have long defended the NBA.. but its hard to these days. NHL is just a far more compelling product. No load management, every game means something, very few entitled players, etc.

Hockey is basically pro wrestling on ice. Even now with the booing of national anthems, we did that in 1996-97 when hero and proud Canadian Bret Hart turned heel. In the states, he was a whiner and a villain. In Canada, he was a returning hero to the northern masses.

I so wish this Canada-Finland game would go to overtime so the US could just play their 4th line and a backup defenseman at goalie for 60 minutes against Sweden and ensure they wouldn't have to play Canada in the finals. NBA players would do it.

In case you never heard Herb Brooks speech to the team before the Finland game (at least according to Mike Eruzione), here it is.

Walks in
"you lose this game you'll take it to your ####in grave"
few steps then turns around
"your ####in grave"
Walks out

I had this same thought.

This is the hockey equivalent of the 1997 Hart Foundation vs the American All-Stars
