Frank is a scorer and he brings so many things to Duke. He is a true combo guard where as he can have the ball in his hands and make things happen. I think we will see him put up numbers like Luke but he's a much better defender and already very strong. He's now consistently listed at 6-4 (prob 6-3) and 195. He has a bit of Grayson in his game too.

With the possibility of Grayson Allen coming back as a junior along with a senior Matt Jones, Luke Kennard and Derryck Thornton add Frank to the mix we have 5 guys playing for 2 positions. If you had to guess how will coach K handle the minutes and ultimately who will be left out?

Allen, Kennard, and Jones can all play the 3. I think you will see a number of times where we go small with Tatum as a stretch 4 and three guards. If that's the case I can see minutes being spread between those 5.

I think Tatum will see most of his minutes at the 4. And you might occasionally see Thornton/Jones/Allen/Kennard at the same time - the wings all have decent size at 6'5. Assuming Grayson returns (which is obviously no guarantee), I see the minutes breaking down like this:

Allen- 35
Jones- 32
Tatum- 32
Giles- 30
Thornton- 28
Kennard- 25
Jackson- 11
Jeter- 7

DeLaurier/Obi/Vrank- Backup big minutes can be stolen from Jeter. Admittedly I'd like to see more minutes for Frank and Luke, but it will be tough if Grayson returns.

If we don't bring in a center most likely Giles at the 5 Tatum 4 and run 3 guards

My minutes for Giles/Jeter only add to 37. So I guess I was off a bit.. But yes, l see Giles at the 5 and Tatum at the 4. I think it will be an 8-man rotation similar to 2015; Jackson and Jeter would get minutes comparable to Grayson and Marshall's minutes during the 2015 run. Kennard/Thornton would fight for the final starting spot in 2017 just like they are this year. But Frank seems to have an edge to him where I can't help but think he's going to command significant minutes.

The three big questions are: Will Grayson and Amile return? Will Marques Bolden commit? Amile is unlikely, Grayson- 50%, Marques- maybe 40%? It will be interesting. Hopefully we'll get one of these guys to suit up next season.

I think we will see a 3 guard lineup with JT anf HG at the 4 and 5 quite a bit next year.

Regarding Frank, I actually see a young Russ Westbrook. Hopefully I'm right!

IF frank averages only 11 minutes next year i'll be truly shocked. I think he'll take minutes away from Jones. The big questions are does allen come back and do we land bolden? If we don't land bolden I see Jeter's minutes a lot higher.

Bolden- is seen as a 2 horse race with Duke being currently in second. I truly think that "IF" Kentucky returns several bigs that the tide will swing towards Duke. Lots can happen still bc a decisions could come at the earliest at McD's game but I would think he doesn't announce until it's clear about who's leaving and staying.
Side note- don't be surprised by continuing to hear about other bigs that Duke is looking at. The staff clearly has identified a need for a big man that can come in right away and contribute.
Amile- the longer he doesn't practice or play bc of the pain I his foot the more likely the RS discussions will be. I believe there is more to this injury but the staff is being optimistic for Amile and no not make distractions (or excuses) for this year's team.
Grayson- most say 50/50 to staying or leaving. What else does he need to achieve by staying? National Championship, check, and leading scorer on the team, check. His draft stock might be as high as it will get. I do think he announces to leave and that makes his final decision based on his feedback from the NBA scouts.
