What do you play?

I just recently discovered Tame Impala after hearing some rave reviews and I would have a hard time arguing they (or him, I guess) are not the best rock band out right now. Their next album will be more electronica so I'm cautiously optimistic that it will retain the groove of the first two records.

Pretty much everything except drums. Been playing mostly bass for the last few months, though.

Loved their first album and the B-Sides. It's definitely one of the best recent efforts in that genre. Loved some tracks from the second album, but I could sense the shift toward a more electronic sound. I'm a little concerned about the next record, but I'm sure it'll be better than the vast majority of the **** that bands put out these days.

As for your friend, I'd probably argue that QOTSA is the best rock band out there right now. But if you give me a couple days, I'll probably say something different.

I love QOTSA, maybe the newness of Tame Impala is clouding my judgement, but they are also closer to my musical taste in general.

Don't know if you heard the Led Zeppelin tribute song on Lonerism (I think it was a digital download bonus track only), but it is fantastic. The thing I really like about them, is they sound like rock music should sound in 2015 (or '10 or '13, respectively). They take what was done before and build on it instead of trying to out blues rock LZ like Jack White or The Black Keys. I don't really like electronica, but if LZ was around today they would be using the ish out of it, not just trying to copy stuff from 30 years ago. /rant
