I feel bad to look back and recall that our favorite chant when Burleson played at Duke in those days was "Burleson, sit down!" when he sat on the bench. Students have gotten a lot more clever since then.
That was a great State team. He and Towe were quite a combination and of course David Thompson was the best college player most of us ever saw. I think Burleson scored like 38 points in that epic ACC tourney game between Maryland and State. I agree, he always seemed like a good guy.

I actually met him through mission work before I moved to Avery County. He is a very good guy.
I liked that NCSU team also. Duke wasn't very god then so I pulled for the Wuffies that year when they weren't playing Duke. One thing I remember is how much the unc fans hated that team and it's coach Norm Sloan who they attacked constantly. He had the nerve to beat them and dean smith and the nerve to win the national championship. Sound familiar. OFC
