I'm open minded, Hurley may be a good hire, but I'm not going to label a guy who has zero NCAA tournament bids to his name a home run hire. Waters, Bannon and Rice all had multiple NCAA appearances before they came here and no one called them home runs.

If it's Hurley, fine. If it's someone else, fine. But there are things I would like to seem them do before they coach a game, mainly land some B1G level recruits in the fall signing period.

Don't think for a second that those issues aren't real and aren't being looked at very carefully.

Honestly though you can't get someone like Jordan who's not hard enough on the players.

You need toughness. All Big Ten coaches for the most part are very intense.

I agree, B1G. But the notion that his on court behaviour problems are of no concern is foolish. Barchi cut his teeth here on a guy with behavior problems. And I'm not saying that a close look at that won't lead Hobbs to say, "Not serious enough to worry about that." But it would be a foolishness not seen in Hobbs to ignore this issue. It's really my major concern with Hurley as a hire. My minor one is that he hasn't really gotten there in six years. Lots of reasons why perhaps, but still hasn't done it.

BTW, litotes is a literary device where you use two negatives to make a positive statement, for example, "It's not bad." I just abused the hell out of that in this post!

Hobbs has given me every indication that he's a detailed guy. If idiots like us on a message board know about this, he does too. If he clears the hire, it's no issue.

I hear what you are saying, but there are aspects I disagree on. Would Hobbs prefer that there were no issue here? You bet he would. It's not a matter of "it's no issue" as much as it is, "How big an issue is this, and can I eat that in order to get this guy? Is he worth the bother?" It will be an issue in the NJ papers for certain. Don't think the SL is going to let this slide. We'll have to wear it and weather it.

It think it's because we've been so beaten down for so long that we all want this hire to finally be the right one. I'm not convinced Hurley can make us a top 25 program but I definitely think he will elevate it.

I think it's quite simple. I personally am not enamoured with any of the candidates and like you believe it's s bad job right now. Therefore why fall on a sword for a guy like Hurley when he may embarrass us. The likelihood of Rutgers basketball reaching .500 in 3 years is real low. Therefore hire anybody today and hire a great coach when the facility is built.

The New York Post cited three examples today. Yes minor if rice and bannon weren't predecessors along with Julie lying, no diploma eddie, Fred hill fighting the baseball officials and waters getting canned cause he went to hof induction. Can't ignore Rutgers past.
