We've added athletes who are tough and physical , AND can shoot the ball.
But still we don’t have the highest rated recruiting class and he missed on “insert name of your choice” and “insert criticism of your choice” and even though Ky played a great style of basketball and had a pretty damn good season, I’m still a miserable, insufferable douche.
I feel pretty confident that not only "can he recruit", but that he has a personality that kids like, and a system that they want to be in. His first year recruiting it was hard to say.. all these kids got a nice gig to transfer to Kentucky.. but this is year 2, and he did it again.. even better in fact, because we got pretty much everything we wanted. Some might say Michigan won the transfer portal, but i think Kentucky has the case for #1 now. And we did this in the face of several other teams (like Duke) trying to pay way more than us.
So we know Pope can recruit. We know his offense works. We know he can make adjustments.
There are just two things left i want to see. 1. A little more tape on defense, but not too concerned because we actually improved a lot on defense last year, and 2. His ability to hard coach, and get into the officials. At times he was a little too much of a nice guy.
But thats it.. hes a top5 coach in my mind, right now. And I'm not sure if there's anyone else I'd rather have.

I heard a very upsetting rumor that Pope is paying players. I hope the NCAA doesn't find out about this.

“Can not recruit” means he has no choice but to recruit.
Before we were eliminated from the NCAA tourney, CMP signed Kam. Some on this forum were complaining that he and the staff should be 24 hours a day on UT. One poster went so far as to declare that Pope did not have a game plan because he had been “recruiting for next year.”
The day after some stated that he could not recruit and should not have been hired. He was drowning in the deep end of the pool.
Others offered up their inside knowledge on who we should sign. Every player, it seems, that entered the portal on a particular day must be signed or next season would be doomed. I did not count these players mentioned but it must have been at least 50, don’t you think?
Now by all indications, UK has the 2nd best portal class. I believe these ratings mean little but still we have posters pleading that Pope needs to have the #1 rated class.
Next season, when 1 of these “should have signed him” recruits has a good game, some will crawl out of the woodwork and complain that they told Pope to sign him.

This board is almost schizo sometimes, People are either the sky is falling or everything is just wonderful. It's not healthy going to extremes and so often.
I hope this is sarcasm or a joke or your posting history indicates you are a joke.
Wilkerson is the next Pope can't miss transfer lol. If he has proven anything last season and so far this season is he gets what he needs. Wilkerson is not a must get. He is a want and hope but I trust Pope will find a key replacement if he decides to go somewhere else as Indiana was seen as the heavy favorites going into it. Did it scare Pope? Nope. He isn't overspending with the NIL but putting together a team of NIL assassin's and I think we have proven our NIL money competes with all the big programs.
BBN reminds me of a tsunami.........one minute ankle deep.......next minute a 60' wave and then a bit later back to normal.......terrible, great, mediocre, bum, savant and it goes on and on....I just sit back and watch the madness over recruiting, games coaching and the program in general.......it is maddening sometimes to read the post on here........
You said almost, we have a good squad but we have spoiled fans that want all the best players every season

Neither are true. Like most things the truth is somewhere in between.
We missed on some guys we really wanted. Yaxel, Dent and Wilkerson.
We also ended up with an undisputed top 3 class.
Yaxel I will give you but no way dent was going to leave home to come east and you would trade wilkerson for Aberdeen
Yaxel is going to the NBA (it's unclear even how hard we pushed on him), Dent was going to be tough to get to come out East, but no doubt we wanted him, and Wilkerson was the same thing, but we came out ahead IMO with Aberdeen. Aberdeen, Chandler and Oweh will have Wilkerson in 40 minutes of hell this December.
Unfortunately I think word got out about Pope paying players. I read a Jerry Tipton article today in the Jackson Co Sun that said we paid 20 million dollars for our roster.
Just an opinon based on how stuff usually goes,. Definltely not looking to start anything.
Every player he got out of the portal last year had a successful season at UK. I expect his recruiting of freshmen to be good as well going forward.
