Doesn't bother me.

Ryan Timmons wasn't returning punts at end of the year so that's good. And 1 punt return in a confusing situation we didn't have enough players on the field, luckily it didn't turn out bad.
Kick return is minimal with so many touchbacks. Kickoff coverage is the biggest concern.
Seems like a waste of a position coach.

Just saw this on the L C-J website from Jon Hale: http://www.courier-journal.com/stor...ps-satisfied-special-teams-coaching/77410130/

Reading between the lines, it doesn't appear Stoops will have a ST coach for the 2016 season. Oh well.

Its not unusual for a team to not have a ST coach, you have to give up a position coach, a 3-4 defense needs 4 coaches because the LBs have such different responsibilities. I suppose you could do away with a TE coach and send the TEs to the WR coach for passing drills and the OL for blocking drills, but you have to have an OL, RB, QB and WR coach. I personally feel its best to spend X amount of time, depending on your need, on one special team every day with all the coaches involved, name someone ST coordinator if you want, but spend time on each everyday, if you need extra work on one, spend an extra day working on it. FG and extra points are essentially the same thing so they can be done in one day.

What are you talking about? You can only have a limited amount of coaches. If he hired a ST coach he would have to get rid of another coach. How can it be a money thing?

i appreciate and understand the limit. but it is unconventional to do in this fashion and the reasons he chooses to do it this way haven't been communicated in a way that makes sense. so I still think it's money and what guys are willing to take on when they come here.

I read that Coach Dawson has a five hundred fifty thousand dollar a year buyout until 2018....adjusted if he gets another job.
That could be part of the reason for deciding not to hire a ST coach.

Comparing to Clemson, their layout:

2 OCs, 1 for WR, 1 for RB ( equal pay )
1 DC , LB
1 DE coach, co DC
1 DT coach, associate HC
1 DB coach
1 QB coach, and RC
1 AssistantHC, TE & ST
1 OL

Def split up differently, but different scheme on both sides as well.

Looks like we don't have anyone is charge of ST.

Because nobody has the title of Special Teams coach doesn't mean that nobody is coaching special teams. I'm not sure why some of you would feel better if someone was magically given the title? We had a ST coach last year and I seem to recall people bitching about special teams then too.
