I think that Bob Stoops has really retired. He's not looking for any head coaching job...NFL or otherwise.

BUT ... I wonder if he night get a college football commentator job like Mack Brown is doing.

Your thoughts.

Bob never seemed too comfortable in front of a camera and can't resist the "you know"s within just about every other sentence. That's okay. I couldn't do it either but Bob isn't the commentator type, IMO. BTW, I love Barry Switzer, but he's not good on the tube either. Bud was great at it and actually one of the best ex-coach commentators ever.

We are all probably 'Over-Thinking' this...There may not BE any hidden agenda or ulterior motive on anyone's part. Bob has seen first hand what losing his father at a fairly early age did to him, and the rest of his family, and he may be trying to safeguard his wife and children from that. He knows that the price he pays for his high profile job is measured in stress and strain, possibly more than dollars and cents. He seemingly 'has it made' on that level, and maybe he is simply smart enough to kick back and enjoy his beautiful life with his beautiful wife, and children, before he blinks, and they are gone...

So simple a plan. Nice, Senior.

He was on the Dan Patrick show today. Dan kept pressing him about why now. Bob said he just felt it was right. He said there's no smoking gun, his words. No health issues preventing him from coaching, no NCAA issues, etc. For some reason people just can't accept a guy going out on top, my words, not Bob's.

He was asked what his next job would be. He said he didn't know but does not anticipate coaching again. When asked about television, he said it was a possibility.

He also said that his father's death has always been in the back of his mind and probably factored somewhat into his decision. He said that although there is no immediate medical issue preventing him from coaching, he has dealt with heart desease that has been managed for the past 10-15 years.

The previous three posts have captured the essence of "why". The answer to "why" is always "because".

Notre Dame fans are hoping he'll end up there. Just might be the one college he would coach at again.
