Future RB strategy

We need bigger backs like Ozigbo or Yant I think. Physical backs that can run between the tackles and pick up hidden yardage. These guys tend to be three star athletes at best so many schools tend to overlook them. Things like vision, patience, and physicality are more important than pure speed IMO.

He definitely is not doing something right as a coach, RB is the easiest position to transition to from high school to college and college to NFL. Its like Held is really messing with our backs because some of them run like its the first time they've ever stepped on a field. I dont understand how you can be a 4 star recruit and not run a dive or power play without making it look extremely painful.
Well Gabe Ervin was starting as a true freshman before he blew out his knee. Our O line has had more to do with our RB performance than our RB coach has.
That was an absolutely terrible decision too. Way to piss off your entire RB room by starting a true freshman who wasn't really ready yet.
He looked like the best all around RB in the spring game to me and apparently he appeared that way in the fall too. We don't get to watch practice so I guess we'll have to assume that he earned the job regardless of what class he was in.
Exactly, our RB's run directly into the blocker or into the defender being blocked instead of actually using the block. Our RB's can't hit a cutback lane to save their lives. Several times a game, they don't even know the play which has been a consistent problem for our entire offense. Held is a problem, and his recruiting is extremely overrated.
Well there is a sort of politics involved in these decisions. If you don't think the RB's in the higher classes were pissed off by the decision to start a true freshman, I'd say you're pretty naive. You better be damn sure that the true freshman is better than what you have. That wasn't the case.
Don't tell John Cook about the problems starting a freshman over a higher class player. That will never work out.
why should we are if they are "pissed off" if they're playing as poorly as say they were? You're making no sense. Pissed off? Good. Then bust your *** to beat the kid out.

Other than the fact that you're convinced you know everything, how could you possibly know this? Ervin could very well have been the best RB on the team, but he got hurt - it happens all the time.
To be honest I can’t remember what Ervin looked like running the ball, but by just going with the eye test, I see absolutely nothing even remotely competent what an average running back looks like on our team, yant being the exception but for whatever reason the coaches won’t let him get in a rhythm, if it’s his attitude or practice habits I’m fine with him not playing, but it just befuddles me to see us trot out guys who can’t read a block, make a move and get 4 yds. It goes get the handoff, run into the back of oline, get tackled for 1 yd gain. Repeat
Ervin was pretty smooth and was getting more aggressive with each game IMO. Held is another guy that I probably wouldn't have let go. JMO.
Ervin was looking better, but these RB's have not been good. Devine was the exception and although I think Held is a good dude, he didn't produce.
I still think if we could fix the O line so these guys weren't getting hit as soon as they got a handoff that they would look like a lot better group of backs. I think we've got some quality guys on the depth chart who could start for lots of D-1 teams.
If I had to keep any of those four, it would have been Held. I agree that our management of the running back position was wrong. I want two guys ready to go and I let one of them have the lion's share. One alpha. Running back is a position that needs reps for rhythm. Running back by committee is garbage.
I don't know about RBs, But there's a 5* at tOSU who might not want to wait two more years behind CJ Stroud , Quinn Ewers.
