FWIW… I love this take by CJF…

To be honest, I wish he could have gone for 2 after that last TD. I’ve never liked his coach speak but this is just a tremendously honest take.

Agreed. CJF has been near perfect in most leadership situations this year - stopping the players from planting a flag at USC (contrast to Day looking bewildered and lost while his players brawl with police and Michigan) to this answer - the players deserve to play. Period.

Why wasn’t the XP attempted? I thought you always had too do it
In college, if it has nothing to do with the outcome of the game, it’s ignored. We had to attempt one on the walkoff vs Iowa cuz it was a 2-pt margin and in the event of stupidity, Iowa could have still tied the game. In NFL, they used to always kick it regardless but I think they changed that rule a few years ago after they realized how dumb it looked after the Minneapolis Miracle.

Oh OK. Thank you for the explanation. Yes it was the Iowa game I was thinking about.

What was day supposed to do? It wasn't his team planting the flag. Once the fight started there wasn't any coach who could stop it.

If he believes that much in do what it takes despite feelings, then play singleton 75 % to 25% over Allen.

And I hope Locksley stays there forever!
Interesting that Sergei Brin, the co-founder of Google, is a Maryland grad. His father was a professor in the UMd mathematics department (I never took any of his courses) and dad has given big time $$$$ to the mathematics program. No NIL money, though.

Wow. That is telling. I assume the Under Armour guy gives them NIL money?

In other words, locksley and his team need to wear their big boy pants and their big boy balls if they are going to play Penn State.

I'm a 'let 'em play to the end' guy when it comes to the backups getting their chance on the field, so I applaud CJF on this, even if it did have a little touch of 'FU Locks' embedded in it. Maybe even louder applause because of that.

To me, it had a little touch of Woody Hayes, who, when asked why he went for 2 after a TD very late in the game, to make the final vs. Michigan 50-0 in ~1968, said "Because they wouldn't let me go for 3". One of the great college football rivalry stories ever.

Meanie! ;) BTW we went up 48-10 (at ~14:50 in the game) with our starting RB. The final ended up being 48-23. It appears all of the talk from Maryland's coach is pure frustration.

Exactly, that's where my comment came from - love that story

Reporter: "Woody, why did you go for 2 against Michigan when you were up 4 TDs?"

Woody Hayes: "Because they wouldn't let me go for 3."

I don't have any problem with throwing or running your offense. Where it gets a little sketchy is that they could have run a play and let the clock expire but they didn't and squeezed two more plays to get the TD. I can get a coach griping about that.

I do disagree that margin of victory is as important as it used to be. I think the old system required you to have more style points than the current system.

In the end it is Maryland so no big deal either way.

We should score as many as possible against UMD forever for their BS their first game in B1G when they came to Happy Valley.

I don’t care if it was different players and staff for UMD. Pay back that no handshake BS forever and ever.

I feel the opposite… Indiana ‘94 will forever more have me advocating for scoring as many damn points as you can!

That is my exact stand. The 80 against Cincinnati was another 4th string rb's scoring on 70 yard touchdowns and
Cincinnati acted like it was purposeful.

OSU let Zeke Elliot run wild against us making it a revenge game from the 63 points PSU put on them in, 94 and it was a game where the subs were in the second half , PSU could have put 90 on the Bucks that day if they really wanted to.

Bottom line score the points, it's going to come back on you one day regardless.

In the AP Poll of October 25 it was:

  1. PSU (19)
  2. Colorado (16)
  3. Nebraska (24)
  4. Auburn (3)
October 29 games of note
  1. PSU vs OSU 63-14
  2. Colorado vs Nebraska 24-7
AP Poll November 1
  1. Nebraska (33)
  2. Penn State (28)
  3. Auburn (1)
November 5 games of note
  1. Nebraska vs Kansas 45-17
  2. PSU vs Indiana 35-29
AP Poll November 8
  1. Nebraska (39)
  2. Penn State (22)
  3. Auburn (1)
By the end of the season it was Nebraska with 38 first place votes and Penn State with 24.

Florida as dominating the Polls until they lost to Auburn. They were carrying 44 place votes. Nebraska was always around 22 or 23. from Week 2 onward.

Indiana had very little to do with PSU winning in 1994.

Yes, Michigan has a reputation. Remember they had multiple scuffles with the other team in the tunnel a few years ago and Harbaugh played dumb about it. Apparently, it’s not just their fanbase that is pompous.
Sparty was way out of line in that incident, wasn't Michigan's fault at all.
