Anthony Gaines has established himself as Northwestern's most important defender with his unique versatility.

Avery Zimmerman's feature story...

Gaines is Northwestern's Swiss Army knife on defense
If Gaines can get a reasonably consistent credible outside shot and a little more finishing finesse on his drives so that teams have to respect his shot and not slump off of him, he will be a much greater asset next year as his defense, as the article notes, already puts him in the top tier. Having a real BIG 10 body makes a lot of difference and my sense is that he will be a solid team leader which will be sorely needed when Law & Pardon graduate.

Agree with all of this. He may be our leader next year.

He needs to spend the off season working on a 3-point shot because teams fear his drive and are sloughing off him. If he doesn't hit a couple of those vs.Illini we lose that game. He also hit a big one vs. Georgia Tech.

We saw that tonight. If he can work on his three and shoot it confidently without hesitation, he could be a good scorer for us.
