Gallbladder removal via Laparoscopic procedure

Wife had it done about 10 years ago. Wasn't too bad, but the pain of the recovery is apparently worth it compared to having a bad gall bladder.
Just hope everyone is respectful in the RIP rick64 thread tomorrow afternoon.
Had mine out about six years ago. Everyone is different when it comes to pain but I didn't have to much. Abs were sore for about two days and then I was good to go. No pain meds needed. Was on light duty for two weeks post op.
You will need to watch what you eat until your body adjusts. For about two weeks you will get to know your toilet very well. When it's time to go, you go or else. Also, you will never be able to trust a fart again.
Life is better without the constant nausea but there is a trade off to be made. Good luck.

my wife had it done about 3-4 years ago. Wasn't too bad. Pain at some level for a week or so, but never crippling.
Thanks for the feedback folks. Didn't know I had a gallbladder problem. Was having pain just below my right shoulder blade when I would take a deep breath or move a certain way. PCP thought it might be pleurisy. X-rays were negative but that's when they saw gall stones. Followed up with ultra sound. Both the surgeon and my PCP recommended dealing with it now vs waiting.

I had one years ago. My surgeon told me later he did three surgeries (including mine) that day. I took about 2 weeks off & did just fine. One of the other two patients tried to go back to work within a couple of days of surgery & had to be readmitted to the hospital. Just take it easy & you should be okay.
Had it about 15 yrs ago, Just take it easy for a few days and you will be fine. I was in same boat, pain and throwing up. Had to pull over driving numerous times. I was on the way home from the ultrasound and they called to tell me we needed to do surgery the next day. Everything was easy except I had a stone get lodged in bile duct. Had to stay overnight and they went in via oral the next morning to get that one out.
Forewarning, if you eat greasy or fried food, might as well eat on the can. About the same with any fountain drinks and roughage. .

Had it done in the spring of 1996. A buddy of mine wanted me to go with him and his son from East TN to Lexington for the NCAA championship celebration, but I wasn't feeling good. Thought I had some sort of stomach bug. It got so bad a couple of days later on a Sunday, I went to the ER. Sat there for 4 hours before a Dr. saw me. He determined I had some sort of virus and was going to send me home. It was the evening shift change, and another Dr. had just come in and asked me what was going on. When I told him, he felt of my forehead and told the nurse to take my temperature. It was 103.9. He told her to get me down for an ultrasound and when I was being wheeled out, I could hear him giving the Dr that was going to send me home a royal *** chewing. Turns out my gallbladder was bad and had set up gangrene. He said if I had waited another 24 hours, I'd have been dead. I was hospitalized for 10 days because they had to get the infection down to where they could operate, but after they got it to a manageable level, everything went fine, and there was minimal discomfort. My advice is to do EXACTLY as you're told by your Dr.
My old Pappy used to say.... "Minor surgery is when they operate on someone else"

I cut mine out with a Case XX and sterilized it with some good ole KY Bourbon but I'm probably tougher than most of you sissies.
I bet you didn't even bother to sharpen the blade beforehand did ya?

I had mine taken out about 18 years ago when I was in HS. Even now I randomly eat something and immediately have to find a bathroom. Idk if it's related or not but if I lift heavy stuff it hurts in the same spot too.
Army surgeon yanked mine 25 years ago at Darnall AMC after repeated bouts of diarrhea and severe nausea . Immediately experienced more frequent bowel movements. Drugs were amazing. Must watch what I eat (ha ha, right).

Maybe a month after my surgery, during a follow up with the doc, he said if I really wanted to test my system, head over to Long John Silvers. I declined.

Damn straight. There's really no such thing as "minor" surgery. A coworker who was 4 years younger than me had outpatient shoulder surgery. Three days and one blood clot later, he collapsed and died on his kitchen floor in front of his family.
Very true. When you're put under with anesthesia there's always a risk. One minute you're alert and coherent the next you are OUT.
Two days out now. Never needed the nausea meds or the hydrocodone. Just doubled up on tylenol and ibuprofen. So far no issues with anything I've eaten. Haven't pushed too much but not eating baby food either.

Just remember, don't jump right back into things, no matter how great you feel, take your time with recovery.
Been working from home and not pushing my luck on what I'm eating. Staying away from the really greasy stuff.
Goes pretty easy these days. You'll feel much better after you heal up a bit and that doesn't take long.
