Game thread for NU @ Michigan

Northwestern (12-4, 3-2 Big Ten) hits the road to play at Michigan (9-7, 3-2 Big Ten) at the Crisler Center at 11 am on BTN.

The Wildcats have been road warriors, they are 3-0 in true road games this season. The Wolverines have struggled so far this season, they are 2-4 in their last six games. Michigan should not be overlooked though, they remain extremely talented with junior center Hunter Dickinson and their underclassmen backcourt of Jett Howard and Kobe Bufkin.

Certainly would help if we could make a shot other than a dunk. Just amazing how poor a shooting team we have year after year

Apparently, you can rip a guy’s arm right off if you touch the ball.

Still going fast and furious. Step back three galore. Make open shots my ***, that’s just hoping for miracles.

Maybe just, like, make a layup. This would be like a four point game if you just make your open layups.

That’s the thing about being a fan, you believe what you just wrote, because you tend to mostly pay attention to what our guys are doing.

If you are a MI fan you are saying, don’t just turn the ball over and we’d be up by 20.

MI managed to have Beran guarding Dickinson for a few minutes and not get him the ball down low a single time. Well done Juwan Howard.

Collins makes a smart move and subs Barnhizer in for Verhoeven..
Robbie Beran has his best 2 minute stretch of his life...
Collins removes Beran and puts Verhoeven back in.

This is a sloppy game. scUM turning the ball over like crazy. Some of it is forced, a lot not. NU took some horrid shots early and bricked some easy layups. Then decided to play like they’re supposed to and let their D lead to some offense. Let’s not let Beran cool down and look for him next time he’s on the court.

The thing that telling with this team is how juiced a player gets after defensive stop. Beran played excellent D there then drains a contested 3. Dudes out of his mind today and NU needs it.

I feel so more confident we can win than before the game. If we can start as atrociously bad as we did, Matt even has 2 fouls, and be where we are, we stand a very good chance of winning.

And Juwan Howard sucks.

Very nice response the second part of that half. Going to be a battle in the 2nd half. Have to think they’ll try and get Dickinson more involved.

This is still a sloppy, somewhat confused offensive team, but it does feel like Thai head they have a few more guys who are capable of either getting a little hot or picking up the slack for a stretch to get things going and keep them from just dying in the vine out there.

This is probably not gonna happen, but

if I were Coach Collins, I'd start Verhoeven in the 2nd half.
Michigan will immediately go inside to Dickinson and he's gonna (probably) draw a foul call from the same ref who whistled Nicholson for his 2nd (which was not a foul).

Much better that Verhoeven pick up the (nearly inevitable) foul call.

Berry blew that wide open layup and Collins sat him the rest of the half.

We started the game 0-6 from three and finished 5-8 the rest of the half.

I’m going to start sounding the a broken record on the Cats not waiting to start their offense until late in the shot clock. Once again, last possession before the half, Cats slow it down and the offense doesn’t have enough time to create a decent shot. Wasted possession but I guess we didn’t give uofM another shot…

Really nice comeback by the Cats. Beran looking great exploiting the mismatches in their small ball lineup. I think they should keep with it.

Cats doing a fantastic job making life hard for Dickinson. Howard can’t miss though. Can’t lose him on the offensive end.

I think we have plenty of evidence that CC prefers playing Roper. Berry just benefited from Julian's injury to start the season.

Love to see our guys on the floor first on a loose ball. Their defense has a way to turn them into the aggressor and I love seeing it. Has only led to good things.
