Kentucky and Alabama had about the same record and both coaches are gone. Playing 500 ball in the SEC is not good enough.

Amazingly, the TN coach was retained. Even the lap dog local media called out the AD over that move.

Probably one of those resign or get fired situations. Wonder what kind of buyout he gets?

You do understand that with a resignation he forfeits any buyout...

Regardless, go look at Brent Ingram's TL on Twitter for some behind the scense insight into UK baseball. As long as the program is not fully funded and supported, they could bring in the love child of Lou Pinella and Billy Martin and it won't make much difference.

Yeah, I should have realized that about the resignation and buyout, my oversight.

If I had to guess, I'd say this is more of a "resignation" than a resignation and Henderson gets paid out the balance of his contract (about $1 million).

Oh.

Do you mean like UK football from mitch's hiring to Stoops hiring?

I follow all the UK sports on TV very closely, but seldom comment on the On Deck Circle, but everyone on there was vociferous about him getting fired. My biggest fault with him was I don't think he put enough emphasis on winning the midweek games, even the Louisville one. Those losses destroyed a very good rating otherwise and cost us the NCAA playoff berth, IMO.

No, not really... [laughing]

SEC baseball is tougher than SEC football, believe it or not. He has recruited pretty well, and yes our facilities are lagging there also. But a new stadium is in the works.

"A new baseball stadium is in the works"...will believe it when I see it!!! This phrase has been repeated for 10 years now...I will believe it when I see the dirt moving and until then it's all a big lie and smoke screen by the administration

If he really wants a SEC level competitive team, Barnhart will have to convince a good coach that this time it's for real. Can he do it?

Now's the time to retire the ridiculous argument that "UK's can't win because they're the northern most school in the SEC." Vandy, UL, UVA, etc, shot that bogus argument down years ago. Hire a good coach, finance the program at a proper level, develop players and reap the benefits.

Excellent point. He actually won his fair share of marquee SEC series (we have won the UF series for four straight years), but the midweek losses to teams like WKU and Morehead were just RPI killers. He kept throwing guys like Pop during the week that just got lit up and then refused to back off of Brown as the Friday starter (ultimately 1-9 in the SEC), Henderson showed no willingness to change what wasn't working.

They screwed themselves when Cohen left because he asked for support and upgrades and didn't get it, then off to Miss St and a contender each year. Much like when he was here, some guys are head coaches and some are always assistants

I may be wrong, because I'm basing this off memory, but I think you are wrong about that. I think they offered Cohen a salary that would have made him one of the top 5 or 10 highest paid baseball coaches in America. I also think they committed to build a new stadium if he stayed. He went to Miss St. because that is where he went to school, not because of lack of support. Had he stayed, I suspect the baseball stadium would have been moved ahead of other projects on the priority list.

I think it was kind of a combination to be honest. Cohen, when he came here, was promised a stadium upgrade. If you recall UK was working on a massive deal with IMG at that time. I don't know the details, but that deal took a nose dive and that stalled all of the upgrades for UK's facilities, including the baseball stadium. So, when Miss. State came calling UK did everything they could to keep him, and they did offer him a massive salary, but I think that the lure of home (Miss. State) and UK's inability to get the baseball stadium off the ground were instrumental in him leaving. I don't know which one was the bigger factor, but I think they both played a part.
