I remember being offered a job in California when I graduated, with abpretty nice salary, and then laughing when I checked the cost of living difference.

average (Average) household income in Ca is 167k. If you drive 12000 miles a year at 20 mpg at 8.00 per gallon, then that is 3% of household income. YMMV, :)

There is a reason people are leaving California.
It was once a beautiful state.
Socialism ruins everything.

Where I usually gas up at a Circle K store, it's currently $3.20/gal. Across town at another Circle K store, it is $2.97/gal.

Maybe some are moving in?
Maybe so, maybe not. Not the impression I get from the numerous Californians I run into who recently moved to TN. But I am sure you hear what you listen for. Maybe that’s why California allows so many illegals, so they can try to keep the population

Agree. But if one gas station in SC was selling gas at $5.00 gal it would be a headline story.
I remember when, at the outset of one Middle East production slowback - it might have been during the war in Iraq, a convenience store alongside I-95 in Savannah immediately raised prices to $6.00. That wasn't sustainable but it certainly garnered headlines nationwide.
