I think Gates is an excellent player but whenever I see a picture of his arms it makes me wonder if he does any weight training. His upper arms show no definition or size. Anyone know if he goes in the weight room?

No clue, but I gotta think that this staff doesn't make weight training optional... that may have been the case with previous regime (at least that seems to be what I heard on this site) but this staff doesn't strike me as one that would allow that...

Definition does not always equal strength.

Honestly, what you should look for in lineman is leg strength, getting lower than your opponent for leverage, and good feet/balance/agility/nimble. Obviously upper body strength is important, but to be able to get leverage on your opponent and to be able to dominate them with your legs should be #1 IMO.

And you would be correct.

I've noticed that about his arms too, and I think a lot of it has to do with him not wanting to get too bulky in high school bc of baseball. I guess he was a legit pitcher and then realized late in high school that he had a better shot of making it further in football than baseball.

I think his long arms make it look like this, too

This is Magnus Ver Magnussen...possibly the greatest competitor in the history of the World Strongman Competition and he was(is) 6'3" and 287 lbs. He would not stand out physically in the OL room at Nebraska.

Each position requires a different S & C program to maximize the abilities they have and need for that given position and injury avoidance. I am sure we can obtain his power / performance rating from the mods.

He'll need to add some beef if he wants to be successful at the next level. On another note.....I though Magnus was 3-4 inches taller and in the 340-350 lb range? Maybe I'm thinking of another guy. Those dudes competing in World Strongest Man competitions are freaks!

Magnus Samuelsson maybe!

A couple months ago when working fence with my brothers, I took a big corner post and flipped it end over end like the strong man competition!

So my younger brother had to out do me.

We watched it all the time! So many weird things. Pull the semi! Lift the stones! Flip the tire!

There's a gym right up the street from me that focusses on this "strong-man" stuff. I got to go lifts some round stones onto a ledge one day. www.ruggedstrong.com
