Yelp now I am reading that Hardy wasn't the assistant in the stippers incident but was the lead recruiter for Carter so who knows. Either way not a good look

NCAA penalties sometimes include empty gestures, such as the vacation of wins. Sure enough, that's included here. Why bother even saying it?

But these penalties get real quickly when they include scholarship reductions and the limitation of recruiting efforts. That's where teams live and it gets everybody's immediate attention, not only the penalized team but also others that may continue to use such recruiting practices.

Sorry to see TH tarnished. Here's hoping he's absolved.

1) Isn't the financial fines of the program a fairly new thing? In this case, it was $5000 and two percent of the mens basketball budget. Interesting approach.

DePaul received something similar for the TWO DAYS a player lived with a member of the staff.

2) I only skimmed the sanctions, so excuse this question if it's off the mark.

Is there another former assistant coach mentioned in the violations? If not, it sounds like something heavy could be coming for Hardy from this: "A three-year show-cause order for the former assistant coach. During that period, any NCAA member school employing him must restrict him from any athletically related duties unless it shows cause why the restrictions should not apply."

3) Wake me up when the NCAA wants to do anything if substance to address the real issues here. But at least they're starting to get out their band-aids to address what's been going on for decades.

Are you sure it's Hardy? I am not seeing any evidence that he is linked to this. Washington Post is naming the assistant as Darryl Labarrie.

I can't see any basis for pronouncing it was Hardy. I have no info myself, but I'll say this: even if he was stupid enough to commit the violations, I don't believe he'd be dumb enough to compound the issue by refusing to cooperate with the investigation. Doesn't sound like him at all.

Our former assistant and player Tavaras Hardy is the alleged former assistant involved

https://www.ncaa.org/about/resource...ball-boosters-provided-impermissible-benefits

Okay, guys. I’m hear to clear the air. Hardy was NOT involved in this incident.

He was there, but not associated in any way, shape or form. This happened two years ago. (Ironically, it was just before NU played GT in Atlanta. That was the first game the assistant missed because of the accusation. He resigned shortly thereafter).

There’s no way Hardy would’ve gotten a head job at the end of that season if he was even remotely associated. The incident happened during Hardy’s first year there, and he was not the lead recruiter on Wendell Carter, either. He knew the family from when he was working at Georgetown, and Carter’s dad told him he was going to Duke, so Hardy knew it was a waste of time.

I said the orginal article I read said he was the lead assistant for recruiting Wendell Carter. The next article I read flat out named the assistant as Labarri which I mentioned in an earlier post

Either way it seems Tavaras is not involved directly with the incident which ig good. But if you really think he would not have gotten a head coaching position if he was remotely associated you have not been following college basketball. So many of these dudes get head coaching jobs having done worse, period.

Not if you’re an assistant who has never been a head coach and who had a possible scandal hanging over his head which could give a program a black eye at some point down the road. That’s like hiring a time bomb. If you’re an established head coach who wins, they don’t care (i.e., Bruce Pearl). But they won’t do that for an unknown.

This seems pretty small potatoes stuff...have they ever looked at the SEC recruiting?
