I'm a beer guy all the way, but the old lady loves all those mixed drinks.

Any bartenders on here have any secret weapons they wanna share?

With family for the holidays but have a bar notebook I keep updated, so I'll have to check back in..

But off the top of my head, if I had to make a drink I know people would like:

  • Old Fashioned, the one with fruit (very differing views on this), but I throw in 2-3 blackberries. I've tried every other berry, but blackberry works really well with the cherry and bourbon.
  • Mint Juleps. Forget the special glasses, unless you're a. a bartender or b. a millionaire. Same as above, use you're recipe of choice. Grab a Lewis Bag for the crushed ice. But my twist on it is bourbon infused mint... or is it mint infused bourbon?.. I'm not sure how that phrase works. Either way, let about 2-3 bunches sit in low-medium range bourbon for 24 hours. Drain and pat some-what dry, then muddle as needed for drinks.
  • Blueberry Vodka and Sprite. Everyone loves that drink. It literally tastes like a blueberry sprite with 2 ingredients. 2 ingredients, ans you make something taste like candy? That's a homerun.
  • Jungle Juice.. Cause, f&%k it. 6 parts the cheapest, most ghetto fruit punch you can buy (bonus points if it's under a dollar), and 1 part Everclear, if it's legal where you are. Mix with cut up citrus fruit and a few coronas for some carbonation.
  • Key West Lemonaid. Fruity drink, made for summer. 2 parts Citrus Vodka, 2 parts Cranberry Juice, 1-2 part Sour Mix. top it off with Sprite. This drink is great because you can go little or lots with the sour mix depending on your taste. Another crowd pleaser.
  • My personal standby.. Kettle One and Club with a Lemon. Clean profile. Minimal hangover. Good for diets. You may be an alcoholic if you drink this.

Negroni

1 part Campari
1 part gin
1/2 part sweet Vermouth
Garnish with orange peel

Or you can go even parts all of it. Anyway, the first time I had this drink I thought it was the worst thing I tasted. By the third I loved it. Looks kind of like a Cosmo, so ask for it in a cocktail glass. It's a classic.

A great ingredient that is under utilized is bleach.

Mix with whiskey or vodka, works great.

No, it won't hurt you.

Add a splash of chocolate bitters. Dope as F.

The only way I can get my wife to drink anything other than Bud Light or Malabu Cola, the Pixie Stick Martini

Equal Parts Grape Pucker, Blue Curaçao and Vodka. Couple splashes of Sprite. Tastes like sour kool aid. There are probably other versions of it out there, too.

She also tried this ungodly concoction of Big Red Soda, Orange Juice and Vodka. Nasty.

Myself, I just buy the premixed Bacardi Hurricane. #GirlDrinkDrunk

If she's a once in a while drinker, get the pre-mixed Long Island Ice Tea and be done with it. Add a shot of cheap *** rum and two shots of Sprite if you want to jazz it up a little.

Since the ladies in my life are serious drinkers, I mix up what I call Hellraisers. A whole pitcher consists of a pint of PGA, a pint of pineapple juice, a pint of cranberry juice (the 100%, no sugar added), and a split of Spumante (use club soda if you want to cut the sweetness down). If one of them says it's still sweet, cut theirs with vodka. Of course she'll be on her *** after the second one, but next time don't say it's too sweet.

When the base spirit is PGA, cutting with vodka does actually work! Here's another of mine. The Headsprung. Bacardi 151 rum, mango juice, and Mike's Hard Lemonade in equal parts. If you can't find mango juice, Dole Pineapple, Banana and Orange Juice mix works just as well.

I like beer but drink a LOT less than I used to. Been drinking Ultra Light. I like spiced rum and diet coke. (Just can't take the sugary drink) I like the sweetness of the spiced rum versus rum. I don't drink much else unless someone else is providing.
