You play who you have to play but it is silly for #1 to play #5 in the Elite 8 should both teams get that far.Originally posted by UKErik:
I'm literally stunned at the Wisconsin hand ringing here today. Kentucky beat them last year with a team not remotely as good as the one we have this season.
Sure, Wisconsin could beat UK, but not if Kentucky plays at a high level.
GBB!!!
I agree that being named the overall #1 seed should mean something which it doesn't if geography is more important. Still, there's no denying it will help a lot of UK fans be able to go to those games should UK get there. This year though with 6 legit title contender's, at least IMO, at least two 1 seeds are going to get paired with another one of those 6. And we all know one of them is not going to be named Duke which really isn't much closer to Houston than Virginia. Both are natural south region seeds as is Kentucky. And Duke undoubtedly has more fans on the east coast than Virginia. Yet almost every projection has Duke going to Houston. It really can make one wonder. Then if they get paired with Gonzaga it becomes obvious.Originally posted by HenryMuto:

Remember 2010 we all thought Kentucky would beat everyone that year too and what happened ?
Every team can have an off game we nearly lost to Texas A&M and LSU this year.
But that's the thing, Wisconsin has the 2nd best chance of winning it all according to Vegas. Why should Kentucky be "rewarded" with a facing a team in the Elite Eight that is the 2nd or 3rd best in the nation? It shouldn't take Kentucky's best performance just as a team to make it to the Final Four.Originally posted by UKErik:

This team is twice as good as 2010.Originally posted by HenryMuto:

Wouldn't you think our chances are better to have an off day against Gonzaga? Seriously?Originally posted by UKErik:
Agree with Brian. Henry, I agree that balance should be a priority over geography. I just don't think the Wisconsin matchup is that bad. You're right about teams having off days. If UK has an off day in the regional final, it would be difficult to beat anybody.
One of the great things about last years run is that in those games vs. WSU, U of L, Michigan, and Wisconsin, both teams on the floor played at a high level. I think this team feasts on that type of challenge.

I'm all for an easier path as well, however, I will be the last person to plead for another bracket to avoid one team. It is not fair to UK, but it really isn't fair to the Badgers. Both sides should be upset. But they should be the ones asking for another bracket, IMHO we are better than that. Again just my opinion, I do respect yours.Originally posted by TubbysTabbys:
I'm not afraid of Wisconsin. I just prefer an easier path. You're an idiot if you don't. We won it all in 2012 playing just one team seeded better than four. My favorite tournament memories under Cal are the wins over top-seeded Ohio State and Wichita State, and second-seeded North Carolina, Kansas and Wisconsin, and two wins over fourth-seeded Louisville. But I still prefer a better matchup to get to Indy, as should any fan. I hope Duke, Arizona and Virginia get upset, too.
