What are you guys looking for in the off season to put in your bag in 2017?

I need a driver that is more forgiving, my game's general suckitude this year is most acute with the driver. I have played a TM Sldr (which has a small sweet spot) and a Titleist 910 for most of the year with little success.

Being a cheapskate, not interested in a $500 investment in the newest club. I will take the savings and invest in a few lessons this spring.

Anyone ever played the Cobra Fly-Z? On line research with Golf.com and others says it is about the most forgiving driver on the market. 2nd choice was the TM R15. Thoughts from the Paddock's many golfers?

I only really need a new fairway metal. Playing a 4-5 year old titleist 914.

I have a set of Mizuno MP64s, which I only need to swap shafts from my current MP57s.

I just started playing this past Summer and am in dire need of some lessons next Spring. Most of my bag is hand-me-downs, but I did purchase the Adam's New Idea hybrid irons ($300 for 3-P). Really good looking clubs and very forgiving for us beginners/hacks.

Wife is getting me the new Mizuno JPX 900 Tours for Christmas. Got fitted for them last week and will order sometime next month. Driver wise, several guys I play with have the M1 and I can honestly say it is a legit driver. The M2 is as well. Try them out. The Slider has no forgiveness. Was a terrible driver IMO. I may upgrade to the Titleist 917 sometime next year but not thrilled spending another $500 on a golf club I really do not need. May just stick with the 915 awhile longer.

Does anyone play with the Titleist H1 hybrid? Curious what the opinions are.

I am thinking about getting a Ping driver to go with my irons

Golf heads are probably familiar with the Kirkland golf balls Costco put out this fall. 4 piece construction, urethane cover. I played a round on Thursday with them. They live up to the hype. Costco is sold out online with them until Monday. 24 balls for $30.

I am not ashamed to play a Kirkland ball. I'll be picking up 4 dozen.

I think Costco may have broken the golf ball market.

Not a golf head, and I'm learning to play with leaves everywhere. Thanks, bucket. I'll grab a ton of these as they become available.

.

Based on my experience, would agree 100%. Occasionally, I would hit a really good drive, but would follow up with 2 bad ones. I know my game needs work, but damn, I don't think I am THAT inconsistent.

Just bought the Cobra F6 at Golf Exchange, they let me try it out on the track man, and made me a deal I could not refuse for a club that just came out a year ago. It has equally good reviews as the Fly-Z, and a year newer, so I am hopeful.

FWIW, Golfsmith's is going out of business. 30 stores will become Golf Galaxy stores, owned by Dicks, the balance will have inventory liquidated. A professional liquidating firm is managing the going out of business sale so discounts will be parceled out slowly and strategically.

Only club I need is a new driver. Haven't looked at new ones though because I hardly hit it anyway. Irons need new grips and shafts though. Been hitting Ping i3's for years and not changing any time soon.

Pretty pleased with the Snell My Tour ball so far. No full round, but the feel around the greens is nice.

Would be off the 13th green, I'm guessing? Lots to buddies belong there and I play there from time to time. Lots of Cat fans out there as well. Lot of the SP guys go on our golf trip each Sep.

Some pretty serious comp out there.

Callaway xr16. If cobra, go with the King F6 over the Flyz.

Looking for a new 14-way carry bag. Finding something (a) reasonably priced and (b) light has been a little bit of a struggle. I like Ogio but they seem to be a little heavy. Tough to justify some of the prices on Titleist and Sun Mountain.

Yup, The House. 4 tee/13 green. Every person there knows who we are already and we have no idea who we're talking to, easy introduction though (Yep, that's us) -- kinda cool and creepy at the same time, but I get it. Not like there are many (any) houses on the course. Plus, we inherited the previous owner/member's RED ([sick]) golf cart sittin on dubs. Easy to spot.

Comp is stiff, will get smoked early...maybe my 4/5 will come in handy, until I'm able to actually get back towards scratch -- hope is I'll finally be able to enjoy golf and practice regularly finally now that it's so easy, no excuses anymore. Know there are several PLUS ghin guys out there, including the best Sr in the state, arguably.

Holla anytime if you wanna play...and appreciate any easy intros you can provide -- looking for games, just been too busy getting settled to put any effort into it yet. Everyone I've met has been great, though. We're excited.

All the Par 3's are bitches, in my limited experience. 16 is a beast/beauty though, for sure. That view is unreal....200+ slanting into the abyss, overlooking the lakes from major elevation. :fire:

I used to just hit a hard line drive down the right side on 16 and hope it ran on to the green.

The other par 3 on the back is a pain too. It is short but maybe 15 feet wide. Miss left or right and you are in trouble

^ and it's the 'easiest' hole on the course based on handicap (18). Brutal.

The 'best Sr in the state' is one of my best buds. Didn't do as well in the USGA Sr Am as he did 3 years ago (made match play) but still an accomplishment.

Can hook you up w/ about 25 or so intros. There's almost always a Sat AM game going - about 3-4 groups - that I can probably get you in to help get your feet wet.

Thinking about getting fitted and being consistent with the shaft weights from Hybrid to Driver.

Never paid much attention to it until recently but the shaft weights of those clubs in my bag are all over the map. Wonder if that will help in getting a more consistent swing ?

That's common. Shaft weight in fairway woods and hybrids are normally going to be heavier than those in the driver. You don't really want them the same..

I've heard nothing but good things about the 917 titleist series. A lot of my buddies are saying it's the best one they've put out since the 910. I've got one of the hybrids and love it, thinking about getting the driver (still hit the 910 and love it).

You said it - forego the new clubs which will have minimal if any impact on your game and get some lessons. And don't just get 1 lesson, get a 3 or 5 lesson package. That way you can work with someone, go test it out on the course, see what works, see what didn't, and tweak from there.

Also, once the pro works with you for a bit, he may be able to suggest some clubs that will actually be of benefit to you rather than relying on someone at the store that's seen you hit about 10 balls into a screen and may be trying to up sell you anyway.

I play with a bunch of guys who have no problems dropping upwards of a grand on new equipment each year but wouldn't even think of getting lessons. Never understood it.

Yep, I don't buy a lot of equipment, but definitely going to take 2 or three lessons this spring.

I tried them out at a recent Titleist demo day. The 917 series is legit but just too expensive for my taste right now. I thought the M1 was maybe the best driver I have hit but the 917 is pretty darn close.

Just some advice. First, I played in college in the time before the earth cooled but have always played golf.

My daughter is a very good golfer and I recently bought her a new set of ladies Clubs. Now she is a very good ball striker and usually hits it straight. She is only 10 but has taken lessons for 2 years. Once she got her clubs she started hitting pusses and pulls. So I found a place here in Taiwan to fit her to the clubs. That was the problem. When she set the club down the toe was up in the air so basically what the fitting did was bend the club to fit her height. Now she hits her irons as straight as ever and does not hit it off line.

So if you buy any irons, new or used, be sure to have them fitted to your height and that basically will cure a lot of problems and you can concentrate on swing mechanics.

I play in a Nassau most weekends throughout spring/summer/early fall. Highest handicapper in our normal game is a 14.
