No more DQ for signing an incorrect scorecard. Just a 2 stroke penalty. That should have happened a long time ago.

A lot of rules in golf need to be changed or done away with. Its almost like the current tax code which is impossible to understand.

Some of the rules probably still make sense for the run of the mill annual city tournament, but not the PGA tour where there are multiple cameras capturing nearly every shot. There's something to be said for tradition, but why are those guys still keeping track of their own score? Even baseball has allowed the game to evolve using technology.

That's not really the rule change. It's only if you sign for a lower score because you were unaware of a penalty stroke that you should have incurred during the round, and were only made aware after signing the score card. In that case, you have to add the penalty strokes and then an additional two strokes.

Yeah, the OP left out the most important part of that particular rule change.

The fact that a PGA tour player can be unaware of a penalty stroke they incurred during a round says a lot about the rules. Also, why wouldn't someone bring it to their attention before they sign the card?! Now instead of one penalty stroke, that they were already unaware of, they get three.

Agree with the new rule, it all started, IIRC, with Craig Stadler putting a towel down to kneel on to keep his pants dry while he played a ball from underneath a tree, then after a TV viewer called in, later got penalized and DQ'ed for "building a stance". Total BS. The Walrus was not trying to gain an advantage, nor gave it a second thought until it was brought up after the round.

But if you knew (or should have known, e.g., Dustin Johnson at the PGA) you should have incurred a penalty, and did not record it properly, and signed for an incorrect score, you are DQ'ed. Not a change there and certainly the fair thing to do. I still think Tiger got away with murder at the Masters, clearly he should know the rule for a proper drop, and just didn't follow the rule, then signed for an incorrect score.

How about the guy or gal that walks around and the rules person on each hole just keep score? Why on the PGA tour should the player even be responsible for that? I mean the score is constantly updated online, someone is watching.

The fact a tv viewer can have a say it the outcome, is just gd stupid. Could you imagine Billy Joe Wildcat calling in during a UK game and saying "Boom is using cleats that are not regulation sized spikes, he needs to be DQ'd for the game and take away all stats." I get the history of golf and all that, but no way in hell a fan should have a say in the possible outcome. Well, maybe NASCAR, but that's it. "Hey, I was listening to Dale Jr's radio feed and he said he spun out on purpose." Bam, dq his ***.

Also, you've been posting a lot recently, you get fired from the dealership?

Not saying perfect at all.....Just fair.
If the second guy off the tee hits it in the first guys divot, is that really fair.?
How could the second guy hit it in the first guys divot? Is the first guy running up to hit his second shot whole second guy is teeing up?

Shot clock. They need to add a 35 second shot clock. Start that mother as soon as they hit the ball. Make em sprint to their next shot.

I did and I agree with you. If I'm on the course and find the fairway and end up in a divot then I'm moving the ball. I don't play tourneys or for money so why make it harder.

I hear what you are saying, and I certainly don't always play by the USGA rules, but one thing I have noticed is that guys that never putt out and pick up anything within three feet of the hole, are the worst tournament or money players at any club. I think they maybe subconsciously don't like the pressure of grinding over short putts, and it really comes back to bite them when they have to do it for real.

I think you are probably right. If you never do it at all its gonna be hard when it counts.

I try to stick to the rules as much as possible but I'll move from a divot or off fairway if they course is horrible.

You still at SV?

Why are the Pro's or their caddies not fixing the divots in the first place? Maybe they need someone following the group with a bottle of sand. Not real good but other than a ball being on a root, I play the ball where I find it.

Pro's have a nice advantage with the rules over us amateurs. I'd like to see 2 sets of rules. It wouldn't have to be this crazy overhaul but id like to see a few changes.

Most other sports have separate rules for different levels of competition. The rules that govern honest play and sacrifice common sense are really archaic with the PGA being so televised.

It was in comparison to golf fan calling out the game he loves. Like UK fan calling out UK player he loves. And no, not fired, actually having a super year, thanks for your concern doh. Hell stop by sometime if in the area, I will spend some of my earnings and buy you a beer. Hell if you are ever needing a car, if possible, I will get you a loan you would be elated over. You will leave shaking your head asking yourself, "HTF did he get me that great a loan ?"

News flash...................... Golf is hard.

Don't want to be DQ'd? Know the rules, keep the correct score and sign a correct card.

Don't want to hit out of a divot? Be better. If you know there's a bunch of divots in a particular landing area, hit it farther or shorter.

The reason those guys fall apart when they have to putt out and play it where it lies is because they've been cheating.
