I noticed Santa Anna pinning Grayson's arm right away (live). I understand the ref missing it, but doesn't that warrant some attention too? After review, shouldn't that have warranted a double technical? What part of pinning someone's arm is a basketball move? How is it not a deliberate act? Grayson was wrong. That is undeniable. But his action was in retaliation. Because of Grayson's history and being on Duke, that is not even in the discussion. Going back to the Louisville game, the Ville was playing overlay physical all game. For some reason, the refs let it go in the midst of a year when 9/10 games were called extremely closely. You cant tell me it wasn't a smart, deliberate strategy. Duke had no depth and could not afford to respond in kind due to fear of foul trouble. Yes Grayson screwed up, but they were beating on him all day with minimal calls. Lastly, the FSU guy was being a deliberate douche.
My point is not to let Grayson off. My point is that each time he was provoked. But, because he is a white kid who isn't poor and plays for Duke, he is crucified. Lets not forget the number of articles that already knighted him as Duke's/America's most hated player before any of these incidents. I get that tripping looks worse than more serious infractions. But nobody is even allowed to defend Grayson. Each time the other side was never even mentioned as having any kind of role. If it was hockey, K would have been able to send Obi out to beat the crap out of some guy on the other side and it would have been an acceptable highlight of the game.
