Jermaine Dukes, my jazz band drummer, just landed a deal to be the drummer with the American Idol band for the 2026 season. Well deserved!! Good luck to him!
Out of pure curiosity, is it financially worth his time and effort? Doesn't he have to travel to NYC or LA?

What's the compensation : hassle ratio?

I seem to be having that effect on some lately. Why so serious?
It happens, especially in the world of social media. We’ve all got to strive to keep smiling and keep going :)

@Alphalion75 - Back to the original topic, how long have you had this jazz band and where is it active?

We are a standard jazz big band. Which is to say we have 17 pieces and two vocalists. I don't run the band. I play trumpet/flugelhorn. We play mostly north of Atlanta. We have some professionals in the band, but we typically don't get paid for our gigs. We've been in existence for about 10 years. Thanks for asking.

That’s very cool. I’m sure it’s a lot of fun.

I played trombone through high school, and one of my favorite things was playing in the jazz band. Also did symphonic band, orchestra, marching band, and pit orchestra for the school musicals. I often wish I’d had the time, energy, and talent level to continue in some capacity.

I started playing at 8 years old. Played all through junior high, high school and my freshman year in sophomore year in college. I didn't pick up the horn again until I was around 48 years old. That was in 2000. Been playing ever since. I also play in a concert band and a little cover rock band. I love it.
