Son 1 and his friends vacation in Baja all the time but it seems sketchy to me (mostly my wife) Any experience you have traveling down there, please share.

Every time I have traveled to Mexico I have come home with giardiasis that took weeks of treatment to eradicate. Mexico is a nice place to visit but it comes with a price.

Been twice and very little sketchiness. One of them was Cabo so not sure if that counts. The other was a small town north of Zihuantanjo. I loved it and want to go back. A lot of folks from the Portland area (and I assume other west coast cities) vacation in Mexico. Also met a number of Canadians when I was there. I was careful about drinking water but had some mild "issues". Didn't feel terrible though. Kids got it a little worse.

I'm guessing that the Baja area where 1 goes is probably popular with the Californians.

When someone does something nice for you in Mexico, consider the following:
  • Pay it forward: Kindness inspires us to do the same for others1.
  • Show appreciation: Acknowledge the gesture and let people know their actions matter
  • Perform random acts of kindness: Small gestures can make someone's day
Following acts of kindness........
Remember this phrase in Spanish to thank your new acquaintances and servers ......cómeme la polla

About ten years ago we took a cruise that stopped off in Ensenada. It is not very big and it seems they really do tourist business. I would go.

Do your rules of civility apply when a Jalisco drug cartel member points a gun at you?

My wife and I honeymooned in Mexico and have been to Cabo, Isla Mujeres and Cancun 5 or 6 times. We have always had a fondness for Mexico but even we have stayed away in recent years given the current climate.

There are a lot of great beach places in Mexico, as others have mentioned. Ensenada is not on most such lists for good reasons. But if you otherwise would go to this couple’s wedding nothing about Ensenada should keep you from going.

I would not go to any destination wedding. I don't even like going to them when they are local.

The wife and I just spent 30 days in Cozumel living in various rentals and never felt unsafe. We walked everywhere and spent most of our time away from the tourist areas. We're going to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico at the end of the month. We'll be there for 2 months or so. As long as you're not hammered, out at 2 AM, or trying to buy drugs you'll be fine.

Baja is chill. Go, get hammered and watch out for the surf which can be rather rough on a tequila buzz. Ensenada looks great from a quick Wiki search, even a photo of a cruise ship so it’s safe enough for you.

Pro tip by you and I appreciate it. The one husband (this is a 2 husband union) is Mexican so we’ll be surrounded by locals. I’m going to start working on my wife, seems like a fun 72 hours.

Show your wife this thread. Promise her you won’t get hammered.

Some of my most cringeworthy moments involved being hammered at a wedding. Shoot me now. Remember Beckwith and Gray: two drinks, no more.

My brother has lived in the San Diego area for over 40 years. He used to routinely go to Rosarito Beach and elsewhere in that vicinity but has steered clear for at least the last 15 years. Views it as too dangerous. So I would politely decline if it were me.
Lived in North SD for 12 yrs and absolutely boycotted Mexico because of ongoing issues that the country allows to come into this country. Why would anyone support that regime? There are plenty of other alternatives for vacations.

The best Mexican vacation I ever had was when I went to Zihuatanejo and its sister city of Ixtapa. They are only 3 miles apart, but are completely different. Ixtapa has a bunch of great, modern, beachfront hotels. (We stayed at the Westin Camino Real and loved the place. Infinity pool, great gardens, margaritas on the deck overlooking the Pacific, etc.) It is very clean and touristy, and has well known watering holes, like Señor Frogs. (When I was last there, Señor Frogs had dance floor that consisted of a boxing ring (complete with ropes) on the beach, with surround stands for people to sit in. Tequila and vodka shots for days.)

Zihuatanejo has all kinds of restaurants, arts and crafts shops, and sightseeing stuff. Very authentic Mexican, albeit being considerably less modern and clean (antiseptic) than Ixtapa. But a great place to explore during the day. Zihua was the place that Andy Dufresne repaired to after his escape from Shawshank prison.

LafayetteBear,
Have you ever been to one of Katrina's street performances, I believe in Santa Monica, California, primarily within Third Street Promenade. I would so much like to see her live renditions but it's not likely going to happen.

It looks like an Eastern European girl playing a violin as a street performer with mostly elderly creepy-looking ogling men in attendance.

I can see why you might associate with this sort of entertainment / gratification.
Ah.......another brilliant observation, Neutering Bob, did you think of that all by yourself?

Has all of the news articles of Jeffery Epstein infatuated your mind to utter such profound feelings of disquiet of her recital?

I selected this particular performance because I love the song, great memories from my youth.

Karolina and her parents fled Ukraine to the U.S. about 9 years ago, relatives came to the U.S. around 2 yrs prior. If she and her family stayed, she could have been one of the regrettably tragedies of the current war w/Russia. she started playing the violine at age 6 and is a performer on the global stage.
