coming down on the Louisville administration for "unfairly punishing the kids." Like they're so sweet and innocent, lol. They willingly took part in ugly festivities on the campus, in the athletic dorm rooms of all places. The KIDS absolutely are the ones who deserve to be punished.

Thought the same thing. Kids come and go in college athletics so there's no way to deter cheaters withOUT punishing the current squad...unless they catch the cheating IN THE ACT which is damn-near impossible. Vitale goin' on about fines. FINES!? Cheaters don't give a damn about those. They're the price of doin' business and the fat cat boosters will spend anything necessary...just look at the scumbags at unx footin' the bill for their shenanigans. He said something about punishing the coaches , I think(?) Ok...I'm cool with that. Except that when Vitale says "coaches" he means the assistants etc. Discipline Pitino or Roy? He defends those guys non-stop. And finally , here's a secret....NO ONE IS INNOCENT! Schools that cheat and succeed built their "brand" on the damn cheating! unx is the perfect example. L'Ville too. Ya think the Cards' recruits aren't told about the "perks" that come with signing? These are kids. They talk. Of course they know. unx would never GET the talent they have if they required legit academic performance from many of their athletes. Athletes , btw , who are handed the scam Day 1 in their class schedules. Current unx players and staff don't tell these kids about the free ride prior to signing as an enticement? Please. The point is this: when recruits sign , in part , due to the assurances of whomever , they are no longer innocent. L'Ville transfers? Not innocent. unx frosh? Not innocent. Neither school woulda attracted the talent without the cheating so Vitale's notion that " the innocent are held responsible" is flat-out wrong. The school has to stop cheating and it has to WANT to stop and the only way that happens is the bans , the scholly losses , the vacated wins , the longer probations , players can transfer with no penalty etc. Those are the only things cheaters understand otherwise it's just business as usual.

Several RECENT recruits came out about the sex parties, so I'm sure Vitale's "kids" had knowledge as well. He's such an apologist for coaches that it distracts from his enthusiasm, even from his love of Duke.

The guy clearly loves college basketball. As such , he should champion the removal and/or sanctioning of guys like Roy an' Rick. He should also push for their scumbag employers to pay a significant penalty too...beyond cash. Like I said , fines don't deter anyone.

I tire of his repeated stories and sayings....Finally we're in February and when Luke Kennard is in the game, we don't get the "Howard Garfinkel Story."

I think he's right. If schools and coaches are on notice that they can be liable for MILLIONS of dollars for egregious behavior then I believe schools and coaches will do everything in their power to ensure such behavior does not occur. This includes spending money on private investigators, camera systems, background checks and even reward systems. If I'm in charge of a school, the very first speech I give will be the following:

I have eyes and ears everywhere on campus and in town. I'm warning you now, if you so much as take a dump wrong you will feel the full wrath of my power so help you god. You WILL NOT cost this school millions of dollars. I will not allow it. Security at dorm rooms are on my payroll, regular students are on my payroll and their job is only to report to me what's going on via email every week.

Deep-pocketed trust-fund frat boys ( such as the Ram's Club at unx ) will more than gladly pay whatever it takes to protect the revenue sports. Heck , who knows if the school itself will even foot the bill. And if they do? They'll find revenue streams to get it back. The cheaters will never miss a beat. Fines aren't deterrents to cheating...they just aren't. Gotta take away the ill-gotten gains of the past and seriously hinder the opportunity for athletic success in the near future. That's the only language serial violators understand.

at the beginning of the game he said, "I will only say this once today, these kids don't deserve the punishment". 20 minutes later he's said it about 100 times.

unx has admitted to spending 10 million dollars in lawyer fees , PR , consultants , "independent reviews" (lol) , whatever. TEN MILLION DOLLARS! Add in "early retirements" , golden parachutes , bribes , extortions , settlement agreements etc. and there's no tellin' what that number looks like. Whatever it is it dwarfs the 10 million they claimed to have spent. Off the record , sources involved at unx said "And there's ANOTHER 10 million to back THAT up if need be" after the story was published. Money means nothing to these scumbags. It's old money and new and they'll pay whatever it takes.

Disagree guys I don't know any rich people who enjoy keep having to shell out millions of dollars. You tell UL you have to pay 50mil and I'm certain it will not be taken lightly. Schools choose to forego the tourney etc because it's the easiest option for the school.

I appreciate his love for the game, and the advocacy he does outside the game, but I do not enjoy his calls at all. He is almost a caricature at this point. He rambles about the same things non-stop, and he is the ultimate apologist a lot of times. You could never convince him that guys like Calipari, Pitino, and Roy Williams could have ever possibly known about the sordid things going on directly under their noses. I get that he is an institution of sorts in relation to college basketball, but I dread games I know he is going to call.

UNC will shell out mil$ to protect MBB and /or negotiate downward a penalty. If you question this, take a staggering glance at the tab they've run up since 2010....Investigations, payoffs, settlements, lawyers, PR firms....

Correct BUT do they want to keep having to do that? Had you simply smoked UNC for 50mil instead of dragging this out, I'm sure they would make sure something like AFAM doesn't happen again. You smoke UL for 50 mil, that hurts and then they pay and be done with it but guess what they mess up again and then you make it 100mil. I assure you things will change. The point is not whether or not they can pay it the point is that continuously having to pay for infractions adds up NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE and it will get the schools attention

unx is on a whole 'nother level. The money is immaterial. To them , it's just the price of doin' business. Given the choice they'd rather not pay but if the alternative is post-season bans , vacated wins , removed banners , recruiting limitations so draconian the "flagship" will be lucky to land the types of players who usually attend Div II schools , shattering Dean's legacy and , worst of all , an azzload more losses to Duke then , yeah , they'll gladly pay whatever it takes. The only way it changes is if unx gets hit with the sanctions mentioned and/or if some adults over there get together and say "enough is enough." Unfortunately , the adults are few and far between on the "Hill." It's no accident unx has few tenured professors. And even they're splintered. For every Jay Smith or John Shelton Reed or Altha Cravey there's one on the "other" side with season tickets and sideline passes.

Devil you are so correct about Rams Club Alumni who have deep, deep pockets. There are probably thousands of wealthy UNC Grads that would gladly pay a million each to keep it status quo.
