Saw on twitter he's interviewing for Ansleys old job. Anyone know anything about him?

I don't know a lot about him (except that I've heard his name before), but after doing some reading... he's from Birmingham, AL & played @ Alabama A&M. He has coached for over a decade & in the following states.... AL, SC, southern MS, LA & TX. So he should be able to recruit Ansley's primary territory. He also landed Skai Moore out of South Florida & he reportedly recruits that area well. He's mostly been a DB coach, but he's also worked in the areas of QC, S&C, assistant special teams, etc.

Again, I don't know a lot about him, but he seems like a pretty qualified candidate.

Seems Brown would be about as good of a replacement for Ansley that we could hope for.

It's beginning to look that way. Rave reviews from the South Carolina beat writers, highly regarded by highly ranked recruits, and he came to UK on his own dime just for the chance at an interview. Really like what he did at Southern Miss as well. Could be another A+ hire.

Man and he literally walked into Stoops arms. Gonna be interesting to see how he handles this going forward. Surely he will interview others just to be sure but pretty good start to the search.

I'm about as optimistic as they come, but I will believe that UK has a legit shot to land arguably the top player in the state of Alabama (with Bama & Auburn offers), when UK announces that they have received the signed LOI. If this was an OH or FL or GA or TN or SC kid, I'd be more optimistic. I'm sure that he really likes Coach Brown, which speaks highly of Browns potential as a recruiter.. But, beating out both Bama & Auburn, for the #65 player, who also resides in their own backyard, is probably not happening. Glad that he is pulling for Brown to get the job, but I just wouldn't get too excited about UK's chances of landing this kid.

Of course, Bama could pull in 2 better dbs than #65 in this class.

The way that they have been recruiting, you may be right. Maybe that will happen & he secretly dislikes Auburn. We might actually have a chance in that scenario.

It's amazing the positivity that's happening in this program. Win or lose, Stoops is gearing up and pieces are falling in to place. Will be a hell of a ride, outcome unknown.

At the least MacAskew would face some terrific competition at Bama to see the field for a few years, looked it up for another post and Bama in only the last two years has DB commits from two 5.8s, a 5.9, THREE 6.0s, AND a five star. They will all have a lot of talent plus a year or two of experience on him for a while. That isn't counting upperclassmen returning. Of course he probably isn't afraid of competition. But he would be another great DB at Bama, he could be the next coming at UK.

Recruits Florida I just read. Sounds like a good fit for Stoops.
If he recruits inside Florida well, that would make him a good fit for us in that 1 important respect. He has coached at some impressive programs too. But IIUC, Stoops is looking at several other candidates. Ansley was an important piece of our coaching staff, and mid February probably isn't the best time of year to find great position coaches available. So I won't be surprised if Stoops takes his time to fill this position. We need a really good teacher for this hire, and it ought to be an attractive opportunity since we have so many talented young players in our secondary.

Brown seems serviceable, but Stoops is known as one of the best defensive back coaches in the business and has coached some of the best to ever play the game, I (personally) would like to see him make a splash with this hire even if it meant hiring someone that doesn't have CFB experience.

Totally agree. The time of year isn't the best for a monumentall hire, but Stoops can overcome this with his reputation if he is willing to take a rising young name from the NFL.

Why would a riser in the NFL come down to the college level? Wouldn't he stick with the NFL since he is rising there?

I really hated seeing Ansley go, but being a Bama native I guess that was where his loyalty was. Replacing him at this stage will not be easy and given our recent hires I look for Stoops to get someone good. As good as Ansley, I don't know. But like others have said, we have good young players there waiting to be coached. I hate Alabama more every day, that much I do know. Saban is an arrogant SOB in my opinion!!

What ever happened to the QC position that the Mangino guy was being considered for, that discussion seems to have dropped off of the map

They aren't robots. Everyone is different. From time to time, professional coaches take college jobs. This time of year, if you are going to hire a new assistant coach, you better think outside the box and work all the possibilities.
