Graham Spanier breaks his 10 year silence and sits for 4 hour interview with John Ziegler

In the last planned episode for the With the Benefit of Hindsight (WTBOH) podcast, John Ziegler interviews Graham Spanier in episode 18, "Silent No More" which lasts for more than 4 hours. Spanier answers all of Ziegler's questions and makes it clear that he, Tim Curley and Gary Schultz are all 100% innocent of the charges against them. While Spanier does not directly answer the question of whether he believes that Jerry Sandusky is innocent, he does so indirectly by stating that Sandusky deserves a new trial and that Spanier knows of no evidence that makes it evident that Sandusky committed any of the crimes he was convicted on. If any such evidence exists, Graham would be aware of it.

I listened to the entire thing yesterday and thought it was pretty good. I thought Graham came across as very honest. Of course that podcast alone won’t make a difference. But Ziegler mentioned a few projects others are working on (including ESPN) that could shift the narrative. I’m not optimistic but I am glad to hear some others are taking some swings.

I don’t mind the trolls as long as they are civil.

I realize that at times it may not be best to feed the trolls and to engage with them. However, I like to try to understand where they are coming from and to impeach them if possible.

I understand that we are facing an uphill battle in trying to make the underlying truth of the story evident given that the public opinion concerning the false narratives are pretty baked in. IMO it is a battle worth fighting given my confidence in what I know and the damage that has already been done.

That is clearly messed up, and not at all what I thought your response would be in this situation. It's a really bad look on your part, and yes your part mainly because your name is on the board. Further, you have set yourself up over the many years as an honorable person who does the right thing.

Messed up? If it's not Fenchak, then it is somewhat messed up. But I don't have the tools to determine who registered the handle. And if I did find out it was not Fenchak, that by itself does not warrant a banning. There are a lot of people that have registered handles over the years that were of famous celebs, former PSU players, etc. None of them were banned for impersonating somebody else. So if anything, the tradition that has been established is that adopting a handle of someone you are not is not something that gets you in trouble.

A bad look on my part? You're way, way, way ahead of things. Again, I don't know who the poster is. With the move of the board to On3, there are a whole lot of posters that I don't know who they are, even if they are long-term posters. Folks changed handles, either because they wanted a change or because their handle was already taken, etc. It takes time to learn a poster's tendencies, interests, patterns of misbehavior, etc. I had 20 years to collect that info at the former site. I've been on this site for 7 days.

If the individual in question misbehaves, then it will likely require action on my part. But except in situations where the handle is offensive, or the majority of posts by an individual are offensive, I like to give posters a long leash, and see how they act.

I'm happy to stand on the reputation I've built over 25 years of running a PSU board. I'm quite certain that I'm an honorable person, and one that does the right thing in moderating the board 99% of the time.

Does anybody know who WCHAnole is? I don’t think they are associated with Penn State in any way. A poster suggested that they may be related to Florida State in some way. Perhaps they are Bobby Bowden fans upset that Joe Paterno is the winningest coach in NCAA division 1 history.

They are definitely a troll. I am wondering if they have any connection to the old guard BOT or to elements of the OAG who have things to hide relative to their conduct in the fiasco.
