  1. Darin Hinshaw: Barker is “anxious” and wants to prove he’s the QB who can lead this team.

  2. Darin Hinshaw: QB Drew Barker has grown up a lot since I got here in February. “To be a leader, you’ve got to be a leader all the time.

Eddie Gran on tempo: "As fast as we can go.” Then Stoops says: “As fast as we can go as long as we get first downs and points."

I don't like the comment by Stoops if it was made interjectedly after Gans comment because it shows he still feels the need to butt into the offense when not needed. He needs to hand the keys to Gran and only give his advice in crucial situations. We need consistency from the offensive coordinator position and if Stoops believes he can over ride Gran continuously then Gran will not be here long.

I was there. You have no worries. It was clear these guys get along very well, the history is good. Stoops is, for the first time I think, very comfortable with his staff. His comment wasn't at Gran, wasn't correcting Gran, he was just adding to the answer for the benefit of the question. Stoops has an overt calm and confidence about him for the first time, that I've noticed anyway, at UK. My fear is that '15 was such a wasted opportunity, such a step back, that it's irreversible. We'll see.....

My hope is that we wasted an opportunity in '15 and Stoops knows the problem is now corrected. That is one of many hopes I have.

And? Are we pretending that Stoops' title is HC of Defense?
No, what I was implying was that maybe Mitch gave Gran autonomy over the offense in order to get Gran to accept an offer of employment with the University.(hence Gran's odd title) Maybe Gran knew how Stoops was from having worked with him before or had heard the rumors about MS interfering with the previous OC. This is all conjecture of course, but we all heard the rumors, and where there is smoke, there is usually fire.

Stoops, if not 6 wins this year - is dead to me.

Too many repeated mistakes.

Gran is a very good OC but I don't know if I would call him elite yet because he's only been an OC for 3 years in a weak conference. And I wanted Hinshaw on Stoops' first staff so I'm very happy with these two hires. I'm not as sold on the defensive hires.

Will someone define Head Coach for me? Seems my original definition is not jiving with some of these posts. Maybe I have it wrong. Thanks.
I was thinking the same thing. The buck stops with Stoops. It's the assistants job to implement his plan. There is no such thing as a head offensive coach and a head defensive coach. There is just one head coach.

My only sincere criticism of the staff thus far is that they havent seemed organized. Too many late in the clock ponder knots and confusion.

People are putting to much into the Stoops dictates things column. We will use pace this year but Stoops is absolutely right you have to get first downs.
it may be - BUT - he speaks of letting go and trusting then unabashedly interjects during an interview. That does not reflect his statement of trust and letting them handle.....just needs to do his Head Coaching decisions in the offices and on the sidelines and not in public perusal.

Just quit. Everyone KNOWS you are a troll. I've read your drivel way too many times on the TardinalSquirts site trying to get chuckles at UK's expense. You're not sly, and definitely not funny.

Additional titles are all about justifying a salary bump and not much more. Gran will run the offense within the parameters set forth by UK's Head Coach which is Mark Stoops. For those that think that Stoops won't let Gran have pretty much full control of the offense I will present two items for evidence.

First from his press conference Jan 4: HERE

On if he was on the same page as the offensive coordinator at times in 2015 …

“Again, I don’t want to get into all of that. I am into getting first downs and scoring points, by any means necessary. Each coordinator that I’ve hired has full autonomy to do whatever they have to do to move the ball – 100-percent. I don’t interfere. If there is a game management issue, if things are getting slid one way or another, I’ll talk about it then. Outside of that, they have full control. I’ve said it since I’ve been here, I think it is very important that I fix the things I know I can fix. That is defense, special teams, attitude, there is a lot of things. But fixing offensive problems, I cannot do. That is on the offensive coordinator, 100 percent, and it will be as we move forward.”

And second:
As much as Stoops preaches ball control, field position and the running game, how could anyone think that he didn't give Dawson total autonomy in calling plays after watching last year's team and especially the Vandy and ul games?

The poster that heard the interview already posted it was a comment made in jest. You cannot go fast if your not effecient that's pretty much common sense. Last year looked awful because we could not get first downs. Dawson was horrible at generating positive yards on first down.
