Should we read this that Stoops was having difficulty hiring an assistant on his own? If so, interesting.

Not at all, don't try to make something out of nothing. This isn't Stoops and Gran sitting in Waffle House trying to work a deal. ADs are frequently involved in these things as are lawyers, agents and financial advisors. Everybody getting their slice of the pie.

Good for Mitch. For all of the flak he gets, he's doing what he can to get the Kentucky football program on track. People want to say that he doesn't care, but he's been making an honest effort as of late. I can't ask of much more from him. I don't know when it will be, but I think we'll see a successful football program with Barnhart as our AD.

Mitch just showed up at Gran's house after Christmas with an open checkbook. I'd say that would win him over.

I'll wait for this to be reported by someone other than Franklin, doubt he remembers writing it.

Gran isn't a wow hire in the mold of a Lincoln Reiley, but I do believe he will bring a level of competence that we haven't seen here in a while. I don't think he is a guru or offensive genius like we would all love to have, but I do think you will see more of a cohesive unit with a clear identity. The guy has a great resume and he has coached and learned under some pretty good coaches.

I heard Gran was scared off due to the 3rd string QB transferring. This threw it off and made Eddie take a second look. LOL!

Eddie Gran had bowl trip in Hawaii, rumors that Tubbs was getting more Money for assts. Tubbs probably asked him to listen to offer, UK probably sweetened deal to about 750,000, Gran was trying to find Hinshaw OC job at Cincy or try to find a QB coach to come with him. Gran was willing to listen and talk to tubs because he has done at least 2 tours of duty with Tommy, probably out of kindness and maybe to give input to Tommy as far as Hinshaw being able to do job etc. Just saying that a lot of this was done because of relationship Gran and Tubberville.

IMO

In a couple of years Mitch will probably be owing this guy $$$millions also..

Some of the negativity on this board is unreal. Let Mitch and Stoops get this done.
Meh, it's the Internet. Just the way life goes in the fever swamps. Instead of reacting to a given thing, and criticizing things worth criticizing and praising things worth praising, people instead take a position. Like "Barnhart is an idiot who refuses to support football!" and then everything is filtered through that lens. So things worth criticizing are criticized, and things worthy of praise are criticized too! To be fair, there are those on the other side, who praise everything and minimize or discount the screwups - but the internet, being a vast wasteland of negativity and hostility, tends to snuff that kind of thing out, so it's not nearly as prevalent......

That was my first thought. He may be in farther over his head than originally thought, which is not good.

Why do you bother posting things like this, we know what you think before you post it. All negative.

As I posted in another thread, good situation for Gran, MUCH better offensive talent to work with and I would almost guarantee Stoops WILL be here for at least two more years, and if he fails to come back for a third year then it will probably be the D that causes it, with TWO seniors in the two deep this year and THREE four star OL eligible in his first year the O should be good-----if they can beat out the eight of ten OL in the two deep returning PLUS other good talent moving up with a redshirt.

Pooh pooh the star ratings all you want, not always reliable in individual cases but a very good indicator in whole classes. Take the very important 14 class for instance (cherrypicking a bit, but his third and fourth year players the next two years) UK's 14 class (using the MUCH more accurate numerical ratings) UK's 14 class averaged a lofty 5.685 (from memory) while his Cincinnati class averaged LESS than a three star for 24 commits, a pretty bad 5.450. The two senior OL will be replaced with three four stars, with maybe a five star the next year, if the EIGHT in the two deep this year don't improve, as they should. He could start a Remington candidate, 5.7 AA, a 5.8, a 5.9, and a 6,0 IF NEEDED, his first year and all of them his 2nd year PLUS some newcomers, including possibly a five star. Most of the skill players with potential are here, and they all return.

IF he doesn't put up big numbers with that talent in 16, and particularly 17, it will be his fault IMO, and I would bet he requires full control in order to come here. The only fly in the ointment would be a disappointing QB, but he has a 5.9 with some experience but injury could hurt------but if that happened he would have a great REASON (not excuse) for not being great, including the SEC schedule.

I think he should see it as a great opportunity, and if the O fails in 17 it should be almost all on him, and if UK does get Stoops fired it should be mostly on the D, he should still get extra credit for a very good offense, probably double because of the SEC schedule.

If he is looking for a job to improve his resume then he should have an even better resume, maybe worthy of a HC, if he does have to look in two years.

I think it's b/c your statement of Gran not being a "wow hire" when he posted a top-5 offense this year makes it seem you're looking a gift horse in the mouth when you've got a wagon full of rocks to move.
I said not a wow hire like Reiley. But feel free to start a completely different argument. Reiley is one of the hottest names in college football right now.

I'm not starting an argument, simply offering an opinion.

Reiley is hot. He is also unobtainable and before this past season with OU's talent, he was a veritable unknown quantity at ECU. Gran is also ahead of him in offensive production for 2015. Gran has a proven track record in the SEC, ties to the SEC recruiting areas, ties to Ohio, a proven history with Stoops, a proven offensive position coach and a proven offense that works. UK couldn't get any closer to a "wow" hire and they have absolutely nothing to offer said hire. Again, this is why, in my opinion, your original post was deemed to be "so funny." UK did well and likely could not do any better. No sense in qualifying or devaluing that hire with what might have been.

Did you read the rest of my original post? Geez. What else do you want me to say about the guy?

I, and others, simply don't see the value or need in juxtaposing a really good new hire to someone we, and most other schools, can't have. It only takes away from what UK is trying to accomplish and adds nothing.

Can we get Reiley now? No. Did we have a shot last year? Yes. We were pretty close actually. My point is that Reiley would have been an incredible wow hire last year. Anyone with a brain could tell that kid was going places. Gran is a great hire for us; a home run hire. He is not a hot name like Reiley was a year ago. I'm glad he is ours though. And I look forward to seeing his offense next year.

I'm not a huge fan of Barnhart and I think Stoops is in waaaaay over his head but MB catches way too much hell on this board. He may not be the greatest AD in the world but he is far from the worst. You don't have to kiss his feet but some UK fans want to bury him and that's going too far IMO.

Mitch is probably underrated as an AD, but, whether fair or not, he suffers in comparison to CM. (Yeah, I know, take his name off the stadium)

Gran is as good of a hire as we can get this offseason. He's a much better hire than Dawson was, and he is also a special teams guy as well.

I am hoping we can benefit from a more stable hand on the reins of the offense. I am not sure how much immediate improvement we will see in the W/L column due to the schedule next year. I want to see our team run offense like an SEC football team should and be able to run a 2 minute drill (as opposed to a ____ fire drill like last season). I think most of us would take 5-6 hard fought wins next season and understand the losses if we are competitive.
