Not an RIP thread, although I do feel bad for him and his family. But keep that trash off here.

First, many may not want to hear this, but there's always the possibility he just passed away naturally. Not saying I'm for giving the Qataris the benefit of the doubt, but it's a hell of an accusation to say he was murdered by the Qatari government in the middle of a soccer game; especially at a time when there are a lot of games left.

But suppose it is murder or at least there is some credible evidence of that. I don't see how 1) ESPN / Fox can remain there and 2) why any teams left would be willing to play. And I also wonder what the US will do.

He was having health problems over there.

"My body finally broke down on me. Three weeks of little sleep, high stress and lots of work can do that to you,'' Wahl wrote. "What had been a cold over the last 10 days turned into something more severe on the night of the USA-Netherlands game, and I could feel my upper chest take on a new level of pressure and discomfort. I didn't have Covid (I test regularly here), but I went into the medical clinic at the main media center today, and they said I probably have bronchitis. They gave me a course of antibiotics and some heavy-duty cough syrup, and I'm already feeling a bit better just a few hours later. But still: No bueno.''

He was also fully vaxxed and boosted.

We'll never know what happened. We do know he was thrown out of an earlier match for wearing rainbow colored clothing.

If western civilization really cared about freedom and same sex rights, they'd never ever allowed the event to land there. We know it's all just hypocritical lip service.

It should've been immediately revoked anyway once it was learned how they got to be host.

I'll go one better: give me the political party of the coroner and I'll tell you what caused his death lol
There are scientists/ medical examiners that ignore all that.

You are correct though that there may be a political announcement that ignores the evidence.

If he was murdered, why think anything will be done?
Didn't Saudi Arabia flat out kill a journalist?

You know what people love more than anything?

Money.

If I had a couple hundred million to “grease the wheels” I’d be able to host the World Cup in my backyard. That’s what all these big world wide events do: bribe. World Cup, The Olympics. Doesn’t matter.

You have to be stupid to go to an Arabic/Islamic country in the first place and extra stupid to wear rainbow stuff in an Arabic/Islamic country.
It may have been a simple illness. But with this situation, and the Griner situation, I think it's fair to say that a lot of younger folks that seem to hate the USA, better start realizing things can be a lot different in other countries.
And worse.

When did Grant Wahl “seem to hate the USA”?

I guess my English composition could be better, but was trying to point out that due to the Griner and Wahl situations, younger people who seem to hate this country, and not Griner and Wahl, other people who are actually young, need to realize things can be a lot different in other countries.

Its probably best not to rock the boat when you're over there. Just do your job and keep quiet because a rainbow shirt or your personal opinion isn't going to change minds, esp. in the Middle East.

I enjoyed Wahl writing CBB and soccer. I even followed on Twitter when he went soccer only. I ended up unfollowing as he got too heavy into social issues, women's game, more long-form stuff, versus quick nuggets of information he used to provide, than my ADHD brain could handle.

I mean two sports journalists dying at an event?

It's not like the Olympics has a handful of media member deaths every 4 years.. and they have far more media members based on the number of countries representing.

Fell like i've heard of more cases of this recently after never hearing of it before- maybe its just more detectable in autopsy now. Hopefully his famliy is more at peace knowing it was a medical issue.
