It's official - the Cowboys are coming to Kinnick Stadium for an EPIC event. Here's my question - We already have a pool of donations that will get over 40 kids into a dual in Stillwater. Is that the best use of the funds OR is it better to help fewer kids from Oklahoma come to Iowa City for what will be, in all likelihood, a once in a lifetime event?

In either case, won't you help us reach out to more Oklahoma kids?

http://wrestlingforlife.org/index.php/donate

Thanks.

I have said on this board that I would never return to Iowa City and Carver Arena. Well , that is only half correct. I will be in Iowa City in November to cheer on the Cowboys even if it is a blizzard. Wrestlingforlife is a great group and deserves support.

That is a tough call, I would love to see more kids be able to go to GIA, but going to this event would be very special.
Received my book the other day, thank you!!

Get these kids to Iowa City to drown out those Hawks! Kudos to Iowa for thinking this up, to John for agreeing to participate, and to Mr. Brown for helping expose the next generation to a unique event.

I swapped emails with Lee Roy Smith earlier today and am hoping his assistance can get more kids to the event. Just think about it - 10 years from now a bunch of 12 year-olds can say, "I was there. What an adventure!"

I have seen a few predictions for this so far and when I saw CPs on Twitter it got me thinking. First of all I think AD get either a TF or pin, it will be a huge stage and his opponent will probably be making his first start for the Hawkeyes. Sets up perfect for AD. On a related note I think the pokes should stick with their 9 retuning starters. Not sure if this is the time to throw someone out there for the first start.

bus charter possibility ???
I see that possibility coming to fruition and hopefully we can fill more than one bus going to the match. I bet Brandy is working on this now along with others.

Keep me posted if a charter is in the mix. It will make it much easier to get kids to Iowa City. Here's a suggestion - if the charter happens, perhaps include a trip to Waterloo to the NWHOF Dan Gable Museum. I mentioned a special tour to Lee Roy and he said he would be back to me Thursday.

You can't quit Iowa City Obe. The attraction is too strong for any Cowboy to stay away for too long. You're going to freeze your *** off AND lose a dual. It's going to be glorious! Have a great day. Can't wait for this to happen.

You are half right Ron as I have never been to Iowa City when I did not freeze my *** off. Somehow, Iowa City would be the last city I would ever want to visit but the "Grapple on the Gridiron" is just too much to pass up.As for the outcome of the dual you are incorrect.

Oberebo revisiting Iowa City.
Sherman revisiting Atlanta.
Hitler revisiting Poland.
Satan revisiting Heaven.
I like Sherman's "scorched earth" policy in regards to Iowa City however referring to your father as Hitler and Satan is going a little far.

I would sure like to have more kids from Oklahoma at Grapple on the Gridiron.
I do not think it is a coincidence that my return to Iowa City will be made on Friday the thirteenth.

Cedar Rapids has several "wrestling-friendly" hotels, most notably the Marriott, which has long been a supporter of Wrestling for Life. It's a 30 minute drive.

it will be difficult finding a room in that city on that weekend
Des Moines is less than 2hrs from Iowa City. You could always stay at my house. But my wife has a thing for Cowboys, so no hat's...or guns, except for mine.

Seriously though, Des Moines is a nice place to stay if you want to have a nice hotel and dinner then get up for your drive back on Sunday. North Des Moines if youre looking for drugs and the East side if youre looking for hookers. I would stick to West Des Moines, but that's just me.

Cedar Rapids is NW of Iowa City. It's only about 20 minutes out of the way. But like I said in my previous post. Des Moines is a little drive but it's on the way and you'll have no trouble finding a room.

The decision on where to stay for many OK State fans will be determined by what time of day the OK State/Iowa State football game is being played. If it is an evening game I and many fans will most likely be staying in Ames, Iowa. It is still shown as TBD on the Iowa State football schedule. I would like to attend the dual and then drive on to Ames for the football game. However, this may not be decided until a week or two before the game due to TV.

There isn't much south of Iowa City and Des Moines is much different than it was in 95. If youre taking I35 there are hotels right along the interstate on the south side of West Des Moines. It's a nice, new area of town with many places to eat or drink if that's what youre looking for.

If youre looking for is a side of the road motel and you are taking a different route than I35, I'm sure you could drive right into one somewhere along the road in a small town south of Iowa City.

Youre still probably looking at Des Moines somewhere as I'm sure the rooms will sell out in Ames fairly quickly. I remember driving through Ames the last time OSU was in town. You guys travel very well. I saw lots of trucks with balls hanging from the hitch and assumed they were all from Oklahoma.

Chances for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Ames are pretty slim. ISU not likely to be a top tier team at that point in the season. If I had to, I'd bet today on an 11 a.m. kickoff that Saturday.

But if a late game IS announced the week before and the forecast is for humanly-survivable weather in Iowa, we're loading up the Denali and heading north. Too awesome a Saturday not to be able to say, "Yeah, we were there!"
