A huge shout out to Jeff Capel last night. He did a great job with the rotation and giving different looks defensively! I like how Jeter was allowed to play thru a few calls that were questionable and not pulled out quickly for a mistake.
Anyway hope K is back and healthy Saturday. Kudos to the boys last night, they competed very well!

Always loved jeff as a player and now. His freshman year with Grant and company was a lot of fun to watch. still can see his behind the back pass in the NCAA tourney.

I'm very happy with how Capel coached our boys last night. I voted for Brad Stevens in our K successor poll but after watching the game last night, I will be just as happy if Capel gets the nod when that time comes.

Capel has run a big program(OU), dealt with boosters & has the background from his father. I'm fine with Jeff running the show.

Glad we aren't handing the job to someone with Matt Doherty's resume. Jack those pants up higher Matt.

Really liked the adjustment to man defense in the second half. You could see a sense of urgency from the players, and they definitely imposed their will, which will be the difference in how well we finish this season.
Only thing that really bothered me was the time out Capel took when we were on an 18-2 run? I went ballistic when he called it! You never take a time out when you are on a run like that! If you noticed, the game completely changed after the time out, and it seemed like we went back to sleep. Am I wrong, or did GT take the time out? Funny how something like that stays with you and you keep asking yourself, did he really do that? That last 5-6 minutes of that game was torture, I just couldn't believe how brain dead we went!
But, all in all, I was really impressed with the way the kids responded in the 2nd half. That was huuuuuge!
Go Duke!!

I wonder how much of those changes were discussed ahead of time. I suspect K gave him freedom, but we know he likes to run a tight ship, too, and it was just 1 game. Like, Derryck starting over Luke and Vrank seeing time?

I will say that I thought Luke sat more than he should have and those last 2 minutes were shaky, but we won a game on the road we went into w/ some reason to be less than totally confident, so it is certainly reason to applaud Coach Capel.

I am sure they had a game plan but he had to say to JC that he has to do what he thinks is right. Cant be thinking what would K do. I love his personality and really think if he gets the job next will do a great job.

Hey Dat, I was kind of curious about Kennard as well. I did not feel like he got the same kind of minutes that he did with K. I thought Thorton was terrific except for those last 2 minutes.

Yea, not so much this board but I see a lot of fans talking about how Capel did this better and Capel did that better, even Capel clarified that K had been making a lot of adjustments and preparations prior to this one. I still think Amile is the missing piece, if we can get him back in time and healthy, we're gonna bee fine. Glad to hear K is back with the team.

Geez. You'd think K would be immune to Back-Up QB Syndrome.

I think K should redshirt the rest of this season and come back healthy next year. All losses will be on Jeff and all wins go to K. I mean he's so beyond selfish and so egotistical and such a horrible person that is exactly what he would do.

Many seem to ignore the fact that K has been going with the exact blueprint K went with in the prior two games. while I like Capel and think he did a good job the other night, let's first realize that what he did was an extension of what K already put in place.

I don't disagree that scheme was the same, I do think the rotation was a bit different. Chase was left in the game while being allowed to play thru mistakes. Maybe that was the plan going in or Capel just said I am going to see what he can do.
Anyway, I am glad K is back and healthy.

Well, in our prior game against Miami, Chase committed two fouls, left his position on defense twice, had a rebound taken away from him and then had a sure layup but took the ball down to his knees and was blocked from behind. That all happened in less than two minutes. I'm not sure that constituted allowing him to make more mistakes.

I know this is a thread on Capel and I think he did a great job against GT with in game adjustments.

But going back to Jeter real quick, do you think he's pressing to much when he gets in the game. I feel like coming out of High School he was a McD all American and expected to get some minutes. Now that it is taking him longer to adapt then he probably wanted I feel that the time he does get in, he looks like he's trying to stay focus but goes all over the place. I feel if he slows down and let the game come to him he will be fine. I love the kids attitude though, he gets pumped on the bench!

I think playing center in high school and playing it in college are two completely different things. Guys are now your size or bigger.

I totally agree with that Stanleyduke, also (for most of them) older/mature. Experience can never be undersold

Chase is adjusting to a new level of physicality. He's still pretty slight. I'm not in the least bit worried about him. He's going to be a good player. Sometimes we caught up in immediate self-gratification....and after last season with what we saw from Jahlil, Justise and Tyus we expect that to be the norm. It's not.

Chase was a foul a minute prior to his last game. It was hard to keep a guy in the game when he gets as many fouls as minutes. K tried to stick with him but it was a detriment to the game at hand. I think what we all agree on is that Jeter continues to improve and that K is back.

Two questions:
1, in order to "play through something," don't you actually have to do some good stuff on the other side?
2, does a single basket constitute "through"?

All I care about this season for him is confidence, and I hope the last game gave him some to where he can start to contribute a bit. We do need him. But not at the expense of winning, especially now.
