Great places to watch games

As a regular reader on here I had seen mentions of Grevey's in DC as a great place to watch a Kentucky game. When I finally found myself out that way on a football weekend, I dropped in and found it to be truly memorable even though the game wasn't.

As I travel elsewhere I find myself wondering, where are the other consistently outstanding places to go to be with Kentucky fans during UK games? Jack Dempsey's in NYC is on my list, but where else?

I went to their website and the had a UK logo on it (http://theponychicago.com/). It is hard to ask for a stronger indicator than that.

Cav's Rittenhouse in Philly is the official UK watch location - although this weekend we will be at the Field House which is a very nice sports bar near Reading Terminal Market. Chickie's and Pete's is the other classic sports bar in Philly - ESPN named it the #1 sports bar in the nation last year. There are several suburban locations now, but the original in South Philly is the best. Comcast also operates Xfinity Live! which is a big sports bar/restaurant group where the old Spectrum was, in the sports complex where all the pro teams play. It's really fun with huge hi-def TV screens.

Thanks for posting, this YouKay.

My wife and I were wondering if we could go to a sports bar this weekend - so now we know that the Field House is the place to be.

We had the good fortune to meet you at the airport after the last SEC tournament - and it will be nice to see you again if you are at the Field House on Saturday. Or are you heading back again this year?

Hey Indiacat, nice to hear from you. I can't go to Nashville twice in one month, and my son's senior recital at Belmont is on the 27th. I am going to try to make it to the Field House Saturday, but I will be in another part of Philly with our church youth group serving lunch at a soup kitchen, so I will probably be there late. I won't make it Sunday due to other church obligations. I may play hooky on Friday and go down to the Field House for the first game if you can make it then. Last time I did that I was the only UK fan there.

Cav's kicked us out this weekend because they are doing St. Patrick's Day stuff all weekend. We will be back there for the NCAA tournament - it's a great place though a bit small for my tastes. I'll be there the first weekend (Saturday anyway, depends on game times the other days), but the weekend of the regionals I will be in Nashville. I might go to the Final Four if I can convince Mr. YouKay to let me. ;-)

Since ALL the games are on over-the-air or cable, I just roll my 48" set from the bedroom into the familyroom, and have 2 games on each set. My Lazy Boy is more comfortable than a sports bar, and the food is cheaper!

Pretty much! haha

I was there for a random game one year (LSU maybe?) and it didn't matter. The place was packed, the bartenders and waitresses were all wearing UK blue, and they even had unlimited pizza and mimosas.

Hi YouKay: Unfortunately, won't be able to make it on Friday. We're house-hunting (in PA!) the following Saturday - so if UK plays on Saturday - we'll try and make it.

Otherwise - see you in Indy.
:--)

UK1919: Yes - the high def TV is definitely easier - but to enjoy a UK game with other equally passionate UK fans is such a different (great!) experience...
