And a very good coach on the way up.Good for them. Ed Cooley is good guy.
It's kind of hard sometimes to know who those guys are...except that they're generally ranked the #1 recruit, like Stokes.Except for a generational freshman like Wall, Anthony Davis, Zion etc, I wouldn't care if we ever recruited another one
I have a good feeling if Cal was still the coach , this game would have mattered to you a lil bit.Thought it interesting. Was talking to a guy who’s a Kansas fan. He said in 2023 Kansas lost an exhibition to team Bahamas. Went on to talk about how meaningless the exhibitions are. I said well UK just lost to Georgetown in an exhibition, and he was like oh well. It happens. Good thing it’s not real.

Pope and his staff can use that game film to help get this team better prepared for the season. They definitely learned more from that loss than they would have playing a small school and winning by 40 points.Thought it interesting. Was talking to a guy who’s a Kansas fan. Guys that don’t know much about sports or didn’t play sports growing up are the ones that are freaking out.Right and that’s exactly what these are for. There’s no guarantee pope had any desire to win that game. Coaches will utilize these to work on things to see how it works. The loss doesn’t mean anything so that’s a good time to see. And they’re good learning curves, right.
If a pattern presents itself then okay, but what we have is Pope having a crazy good year after Calipari left the program gutted. Couldn’t even tell you the last time Calipari got close to beating Duke. Mark has done a crazy good job maintaining the program during this transition. Have no idea why anyone would use a scrimmage game to make judgements.

Everyone will calm down when our season starts and we actually have a point guard running the offense. We are going to be really good this seasonnot gonna lie, I’ve seen quite a few comments that appear to show some don’t quite understand what scrimmages are for. Hey maybe we suck this year. I don’t buy it but if it happens it happens. We’ll have those discussions then. But these scrimmages were not a glimpse into that.
True, but if it did count there one of the few teams to hold us winless in Rupp and winless overall. I never shy away from playing anyone, but we seemingly are cursed to shoot like igloos against them.Checks notes, sees no losses to Georgetown for 25/26 season.![]()

It was in Rupp. It matters. Does it matter in the W-L column? No. But it sure has put a bit of a damper to start the season.
It also matter we got waxed. Wasn't like we gutted it out and lost by a couple. THAT would've been a bit better.
Again, what matters is what we were working on. What matters is we were down 3 starters 2 of which are part of our immediate rotation. Scrimmages are used to do different things. The point is NOT to win, the point is to work on things you want to observe. I don’t know what Mark was doing, he’s not saying. I don’t know if winning was even something he was interested in. I’ve played ball all through I’ve coached I’ve done it. I’ve thrown pitches in scrimmages I wouldn’t dare throw in games. I’ve seen it, It’s a scrimmage to have a real game feel but to try and work on things you need to work on without losing games. The clue is we waxed Purdue just before. Obviously Georgetown was interested for whatever reason, maybe Cooley wanted to build confidence and Pope was working on situational things. I have no idea. But I do know these scrimmages don’t tell you anything necessarily. It depends on what we’re working on.
There was NO loss. It was a PRACTICE. That’s not a loss in Rupp.
And last year Kansas was the pre season number 1 team and got walloped by Arkansas in an exhibition game and look how their season turned out. Sometimes they matter sometimes they don’t.Thought it interesting. Was talking to a guy who’s a Kansas fan. He said in 2023 Kansas lost an exhibition to team Bahamas. I always watch. I remember almost getting beat by Athletes In Action years ago lolNah I never cared about any of our exhibitions. It might have been more of the same, so I might have thought here we go. But It’s all relative to how Pope does what he does, Calipari is relative to his own patterns. There’s no pattern here. Calipari was completely checked out and trying to battle behind the court. He was detrimental and we still have yet to fully recover from his last 5+ years. None of which has anything to do with Pope beating Purdue and losing to Georgetown during fake games.
I don’t blindly support coaches. We had about 25% of this fanbase supporting calipari over this program. I won’t do that for Pope, and I won’t do that for a guy like Calipari who’s cared zero about our programs legacy btw. Pope actually cares about this place so he deserves far more respect based on that and what he’s already done here.
I just don’t believe a lot of people understand what goes on during exhibitions. I’ve played in many so I know. On top of that, we were down 3 future starters, 2 of which are supposed to be playing now. The best thing to do is weigh the situation without bias on its own. I do think Pope needs a little more time to get everything right given the importance he could bring here, but he’s got to perform. But there’s no evidence to support Mark should be under fire at all here. Calipari was giving mountains of evidence he was detrimental to this program, while probably 25% of this base (maybe a little less) was so bought by his cheap charisma they didn’t care and didn’t see it. Calipari I gave until around 2019 because of his first 5 years and the fact we needed that modern goat. We still don’t have it. If Mark can get that then it’s better anyway, so I will give a longer rope to see if it clicks. Exhibitions are not games they’re glorified practice. I never watch exhibitions except for rare occasions. I rarely watched Calipari’s exhibitions either.
