Guard play and shooters

By my calculations, we are only going to have 2 true guards on the roster next year in steward and roach. I think we have a huge need for a talented combo guard that can sub for those 2. Would help if he could really shoot it but I'm guessing steward, roach, brakefield all make progressions there next year. Why are we not recruiting here?

He can but he says he is unsure if he will. He could go to a smaller school and start, but I'd love to have all 3 back.

Keels. Not a combo though. Can Goldwire come back?
Keels is more of a slasher with a decent shot. Need someone that can handle the ball. I have no idea why we are trying to turn moore into something he is not. Let him be good at what he does...which is obviously not handle the ball.

I find it hard to believe Goldwire will leave on his on will.. he gets lots of minutes at Duke and K loves players like him.. also, couldn’t he likely break the record for most games played at Duke, since he’s going to have 5 “full” seasons?

Since guard is the QB of the team, its puzzling that there isnt a capable pure PG on the roster every year. There is some unknown with early departure that isnt anticipated but when building a roster I would think its imperative to have that covered by deepening the guard choices when recruiting. We used to always have an experienced PG that could run the team, drive to the hoop when needed and knock down 3's AND was a pest in defense...ala Hurley, Jwill, Nolan, JJ etc....this year we are definitely missing that piece

No. A senior can come back and play that fifth year only if he/she stays at the same school. Inasmuch as this is Goldwire's fourth season at Duke he is not eligible to move on as a grad transfer. He either plays at Duke next season or moves on with the rest of his life.

I read reports that goldwire won’t be back next year. I don’t think we will have the room to keep him. We’re losing 4 scholarships and trying to bring in a 4 man class

I don’t count but 11 true scholarship players this year. Can’t you have 13 total? I thought walk ons are given a scholarship only for that 1 year.
