Thanks to Louisville shooting at a good clip tonight against Virginia, UK has moved back into the top defensive spot on Kenpom. I never liked hearing that UK was #2 in defense.

Kind of surprised we moved up to #1 that quickly. Granted, UVa gave up 59 points but that's still not a whole lot.

We did a nice job on Florida today too. They shot OK, but turned it over 17 times.

Even though it's #1 now, Kentucky's defensive efficiency has plummeted quite a bit since its peak this year.

Competition stiffened overall, and teams have more and more tape on how to attack the UK D. UK still has the best D in the nation by far.

Adjusted defensive efficiency takes into consideration the level of competition, so that should have no bearing on the dropping of Kentucky's adjusted defensive efficiency.

As of games through January 29th when Kentucky was 20-0, it's adjusted defensive efficiency was 80.1. Here's a snapshot.

11 games later it sits at 85.1.

A 5 point adjusted efficiency drop this late in the season over the course of 11 games, with 20 games already in the books is pretty meaningful. To me that's a plummet.

Luckily though Kentucky's adjusted offensive efficiency has gone up by 4 points over that same time span almost negating that drop.
