what are gun laws in Kentucky now? I've inherited 5 handguns that i suppose are unregistered from my late dad, None of them special ,a 22 revolver, 22 auto, a beat up up 25 auto he bought from a farm hand, a 32 revolver and a 38 revolver.

Are these guns illegal, will I get I get in trouble with the police for just the possession of them or can I carry them around freely?

if you are concerned about their legality, then check their serial numbers. they could have been stolen at some point but that would be your only concern. otherwise, buy some ammo!
open carry vs concealed; i think KY just passed a law that you do not actually have to have a concealed permit to carry concealed. confirm that before you go to the mall!

Seems a good place to ask a of gun questions....
Can someone explain to me the merit of permit-less conceal carry?

The 2nd amendment would be a good start. I am trying to find something in the amendment about getting a permit but can't seem to find it anywhere.

I have an arsenal of guns that were given to me or I bought from friends. I once bought a .38 special from a man on the side of the road selling tomatoes. I pulled over to get a sack of tomatoes and he had it in his back pocket. We talked for a few minutes, I made an offer to buy it and I went home with a .38 Smith & Wesson and 6 beef steak tomatoes. No problem and that was over 40 years ago., I ate the tomatoes but still have my pistol.

You don’t need a permit to carry your legally owned gun. It’s safer than openly carrying your weapon....which our govt deemed fine for some odd reason.

Still wise to get your permit for a few reasons, mostly related to our stupid govt.

Also get one for going through states that still only have concealed carry and not constitutional carry.

I have had a carry permit for decades. I live in a state where approximately 2,000,000 residents have a carry permit.

Although you don’t have to have a permit, I do recommend it. Mainly for several reasons.

1. Reciprocity - You might need s permit to carry outside the state.

2. Education - it’s fun and educational to talk about real world legal situations. I’ve been a lifelong firearm enthusiast and I’ve still learned from the classes I’ve taken.

3. Going over extremely basic skills. I hate to think of this because it’s true but there are people out there who are soooo dense and void of common sense that they don’t know basic concepts. They need to hear “don’t point a gun at anyone”. “Treat all guns as if they are loaded”. “Do not touch the trigger until you’re ready to use it”. “Store it away from kids”.

For most people who take the class this is boring and dumb, but some idiots need to hear it.

So the constitutional carry is for guns but does that include all forms of deadly weapons knives brass knuckles etc

I thought permitting the carry of firearms would be good for LE folks but guess I'm wrong... And yes I have a permit and think it to be a good thing.

and tell me why we can't... because it sure as hell happens near me and have been told its okay... won't touch it... Jefferson County

I’m sure it happens.....I’ve been apart of activities like this myself. Doesn’t mean it’s legal.....

I mean, could you set off a nuke on your property and think it’s legal?

I think more people should open carry.

I have a lot of family in Texas. And have been to New Mexico and Arizona a bunch. Open carry is much more prevalent down there.....not only as a deterrent but also ornamental. Often people have ornate 1911s or revolvers to don on special occasions.

I would like Kentucky to open carry more as well.....mainly as a deterrent. But I’d still remain more covert on most occasions.
