Unfortunately, a lot of guys start out like Gus with energy and insight. Then they become caricatures of themselves during the broadcast. Then they jump the shark by doing an ad for a hotel chain or deodorant spray.

Leave Gus alone lol. If someone offered to throw you some cash for doing a quick commercial like those you’d take it. Gus still has great energy and he’s not a young guy. I’m still a fan.

I do enjoy watching him but yes he sometimes stretches his caricature out….

Watching him do UConn St John’s. He just lauded the incredible officiating this year in college basketball. Ugh.

The college sports broadcasting equivalent of Al Pacino.

Gus is just overworked. They need to get a second version of him to share the workload. You know, a spare o' Gus
Brilliant pun.

I enjoy Gus’s energy. I don’t think I’d enjoy a copycat of his quite as much. 🤷‍♂️

Wow Purdue getting some NU esque calls against them today. High knees is killing them. Finally a groin kick that looked intentional and they didn’t call it.

Remember this like it was yesterday

Oh baby. So do I. I lost my mind when Marcothreelio hit that… and then proceeded to kick over one of those old square trash cans after that damn Sullinger made that tough layup on Shurna lol

During the Michigan State game this year, it felt like Gus and Jim Jackson had no knowledge of either team and stuck to the high level, obvious talking points on whatever stat sheet a producer handed them. Obviously didn’t help that MSU jumped out to a huge lead and the game was a snoozer. Contrast this with the FS1 and BTN guys on the weeknight games and it is downright startling. Say what you will about Steven Bardo, but he has watched a ton of Cats games and has a deep understanding of player strengths and weaknesses down the bench.

Gus will give you big game feels but if the game doesn’t provide the narrative for him there isn’t much to fall back on.

I remember going to that game. That is an all time great call.
