George Washington won the NIT with a dominant performance over Valpo. Joe McDonald was their senior captain and PG. Years ago , I attended a game at my son's old prep school, known for its lacrosse program but not its basketball team. I was stunned by the presence of 2 D1 quality players on the team. I quickly wrote/emailed Coach Carmody about these players since they attended a very rigorous academic HS and would have been the most athletic players NU had seen in a while.

I did not get a response from BC(Fitz always responds when I give him a tip-the last tip was on a freshman DE who eventually turned out to be the #1 HS recruit nationally-he now starts for Alabama) The two players recommended were:

Darion Atkins 6'8" ACC defensive player of the year 2015 @ UVA - turned down ND
Joe McDonald 4 year starter @GW - Turned down Harvard

BC was a great tactician but .....

Mike Lonergan , GW's coach, probaby is destined for a bigger job. He won a D III National Championship @ Catholic. I believe he was successful @ Vermont and has had 3 or 4 consecutive 20+ wins @ GW, capped by 27 this year. He did beat UVA earlier this year and had a slight midseason slump when McDonald was injured. 3 of his players were All Conference academic players, considering only 6 in the entire conference qualified

Colonials also have joined some of the other mid-majors in looking overseas for players. They have starters from Argentina, Denmark and Japan.

That GW team LOST by 20 points at DePaul a few days after we beat them. I wonder how that played in the very flawed (in my opinion) RPI standings.

I found it amusing that GW employed the 1-3-1 during its NIT run as its go to defense.I am technically an alum of GW also and had season tickets for BB for a few years. The campus is in the heart of DC and media and political personalities were frequently courtside-Wolf Blitzer and Red Auerbach were present for most games
