My concern is going to be how many players do we lose to the portal and how many commits will we lose to this?

Well Tang is 55 and Anderson is 62. Will TU go for experience or go for a younger coach? Both have quality resumes and are more than capable to lead TU. I am leaning more toward Tang with his ability to recruit that state of Texas. Whereas Anderson will always be a hometown favorite.

CBS Sports is reporting that Mike Anderson and Jerome Tang are currently the top two candidates.
This is incorrect. Anderson is definitely interested but not currently a top candidate due to reasons I've mentioned in Hurricane Alley. I have a thread with the info I'm getting from a source close to the program in Hurricane Alley for anyone interested.

None look to be talented enough to play here. Maybe the two freshman.

they for sure have lost the early signed players.
The new coach’s first contact will be with the signees and if Shea is retained as he has been twice, that will help.

In this era of basketball, you need to look at third option double digit scorers from high major programs or slept on low major guys.

I’d love to have the kid at ORU, but I can see him going to a Texas or Arkansas.

I believe we need to retain special K, Pritchard, Griffin and Gaston-Chapman. As for the signees? I am sure that will be the coaches first order of business. Then pulling his own players in.

Virginia Tech is winning with Low major stars who portaled. We may be in-between the sweet spots for portaling the best low majors.

I thought Shea was hired to recruit the Tulsa area, that hasn't worked out very well for TU.

Bring in a whole new staff, concerning the existing players and those either signed or committed, let the chips fall where they may! It is time for a new era for TU basketball. 5 mediocre hires in a row has given TU almost a self imposed death penalty. This hire has to be spot-on or it could be the final nail in the coffin for b-ball!

The program is only a couple years away from being back up and running. It doesn’t take long. Manning should have stayed and would have made TU a midmajor powerhouse based off of his KU system which focuses on strong defense , creating solid offense. TU doesn’t need a star powered offense, it needs a coach who could bring a strong powerhouse programs system to compete with anyone (assistants from schools like Cincy, WVU, Gonzaga, UH, Big 10 etc etc). You can throw in even the likes of the new ORU or SDSU.. Systems where you don’t need super stars to compete with the top of conference. Strong defense creates open court opportunities , which is where the fun of fast break dunks and alley oops come into play..which excites the crowd. Solid offense will give the consistent points. Forget the names , or who’s more popular and look at the trajectory of their current programs playing style in which the next coach is coming from

Still need athletes that can shoot. Sorry defense is great but scoring is needed. Look at OSU. Great defense so they occasionally get upsets but scoring keeps them in trouble.

A pattern is showing up in the NCAA qualifiers:

1. Older players...with COVID year or Grads. Much stronger and more mature. (Jackson, Horne, Richmond team)
2. Portal recruits from smaller schools who are All-League in their conference. (Virginia Tech) (Texas Tech)
3. Good European and Australian players. Great fundamentals (St Mary's and Davidson)

JUCO's and Freshmen are of lesser importance currently.

Rick find us a coach who can get these kind of players and put them together.

Things are changing pretty rapidly. Several things I can't mention yet, but I will add to my previous post on Anderson. He's becoming more of a candidate per my sources. He was initially way off on money, but that is changing.

Yeah. But are your sources covering this from all angels like my sources are? Do you have anyone stationed at the Port of Catoosa? What’s that? Didn’t think so.

No!!!
You don't take a coach that the school he's at wants him gone. When has that worked well? (And yes while I like Haith has a person, I don't count one tourney birth in 8 years a success).
You want to take the guy that the other school wants to keep :)

Like Nolan, Tubby, Bill?
My interest is piqued. Bill Self was not wanted at ORU? When was Bill Self not wanted? Tubby at Memphis was a mess and that’s what this would feel like- great guy, but…best years behind? Tulsa doesn’t have an image issue- Anderson at LSU makes sense from optics, runs clean program, etc, but that’s not TUs need.

I'm saying when we lost, Nolan, Tubby and Bill, we wanted to keep all three.
