Louie lives about 5 minutes away from me. He’s the sweetest guy. His wife Judy is such a lovely woman too. A few years ago he let us have his tickets to a UK game. Pretty good seats too

Dampier used to golf with my Uncle years ago. Got me an autograph.

Explains it. He used to golf at the now Eagle Creek Golf course in Lagrange with my Uncle. He and my Aunt used to live on the course. It may've been a different name back then as that was in the 90's. Had a lot of great times fishing the quarry and the course lake.

Dampier was a stud, one of my Dad’s favorites.
Louie was the best shooter we ever had IMHO.

2 of the best guys ever, and proud to say, 2 very good friends. Louie is the most humble superstar ever.
He actually played in the NBA for a few years with the Spurs after the merger.
Louie was my first basketball hero. Between UK and the Colonels he was the best.
I don't remember Dampier when he played at UK but I do remember him when he played for my 2nd most favorite team ever, The Kentucky Colonels. One of the greatest shooters ever. DAMPIER IS IN THE PRO BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME
Jerry Hale was a role player on my favorite UK team ever, the 1974-75 team that lost to UCLA in the national championship game.
Jerry Hale played on the Floyd Central Indiana high school team that went to final four,they made a lot of late game come backs to do it. They were way behind in the final four about 20. And made a big come back to almost win it. The other team had a star that went to UCLA Tgouovich and a player that went to UL can't remember name.
Louie was also a Hoosier from Southport in Indy,both were Indiana all stars.

I have an autographed photo of Louie Dampier on my wall right now. I'm not old enough to remember him at UK, but I saw him play in the ABA/NBA. Travis Perry's ceiling is Louie Dampier.

Hale was the back-up to the two starters, Jimmy Dan Conner and Mike Flynn. This team was one of my favorites. Knocked off #1 ranked, undefeated indiana in the final of the then called Mideast regional to go to the FF. Lost to ucla in the championship after they should have lost to the cards. Would have been an all Kentucky final game.
Follow up Trgovich and Junior Bridgman was the player that went to UL.All five of the East Chicago players started in college ball.
Hey Dallas Wild I saw the other day in a thread you were at the 80 IU game in the IU student section I was also at that game in the IU student section six rows from the floor.
I went to Crestwood Elementary during my 4th and 5th grade (1980-81 ish)and Nick Dampier, Louie's son, was at Crestwood at the same time. (Nick was a year ahead) We had an intramural basketball team and there was a school choir for about 25 of us that Nick and I were on these at the same time together. My parents were UK grads and we have our first choir performance for the families and at the end my parents are starstruck. They are like "OMG, it's Louie Dampier!!!" and to 10-year old me who was born after the Runts and too young to have memories of the Colonels was just like "Yeah, that's Nick's Dad,What's the big deal?"
So now whenever Louie Damper comes up, I always think "Nick's Dad"
I'm not sure about the NBA but he or Dr J would be the face of the ABA. One of those 2 would be the logo for the ABA like Jerry West for the NBA
Yes. And he can also lay claim to being the first great three point shooter in all of basketball history …considering the ABA invented the three point shot and Dampier was its first master.
That’s a pretty cool legacy.

I don't know why I was thinking Louie wasn't in the HoF but I'm glad to hear he is there as he should be.
It's the 50th anniversary of the Colonels ABA Championship. That team probably would have been a playoff team in the NBA. Artis Gilmore and Dan Issel were NBA All-Stars after the merger, and Dampier had a pretty good few years in the NBA too. The 1975 ABA Championship Game is on youtube. Not that many high quality videos of ABA games, which is a shame, because the colors really stood out in the ABA with the red, white and blue ball and colorful uniforms, wild hairstyles, 3-point line, etc.
