Maybe his style just resonates with many of the players. Maybe releasing some of this strategic film release makes the fan base feel a little better.

Does it retain players if Smith stays on?
does it resonate with recruits on the fence?
Does it sell any seats on the west side?
Does it help to get more than 50,000 fans in the stadium Saturday?

FWIW, it's also pretty easy to tell who has officiating experience...yet those that haven't don't hesitate from criticizing call after call (often times without fully understanding the rules).

True, officiating (like coaching) is always easy when making the calls after the fact from the couch.
