Today we acknowledge (and many celebrate) the greatest single event in world history. The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead! He was who He claimed to be - the Son of God and Savior of the world - and the words He spoke were true. Many people actually saw Him dead and a substantial number saw Him after He came back to life.

3 The first thing I (Paul) did was place before you what was placed so emphatically before me: that the Messiah died for our sins, exactly as Scripture tells it;
4 that he was buried; that he was raised from death on the third day, again exactly as Scripture says;
5 that he presented himself alive to Peter, then to his closest followers,
6 and later to more than five hundred of his followers all at the same time, most of them still around (although a few have since died);
7 that he then spent time with James and the rest of those he commissioned to represent him;
8 and that he finally presented himself alive to me (a Jesus hater)

1 Corinthians 15:3-8

You may not believe it is true but those early believers undeniably were convinced that they had seen Jesus alive after they knew He had died and was buried. They had absolutely nothing of an earthly nature to gain by proclaiming it happened - and everything to lose! It was a capital offense in Judaism and many paid the ultimate price rather than deny it. Many still do in other parts of the world.

I'll hang up and listen.

What a joke of a poorly written "article." Virtually every account of the crucifixion cites that pilate and the romans had no interest in executing jesus christ. Was only done because of an unrelenting lynch mob. Yet he was "an enemy of the roman state."

You atheists are hilarious. "I don't believe in religion because it defies fact and logic." then all you do is center your arguments on non fact and non logic.

First of all it's a blog. Second of all you may want to read up on the author. http://www.thegreatcourses.com/professors/bart-d-ehrman/

Also. Why he was crucified is not the point I was trying highlight. The point I was trying to make is that people weren't given proper burials. They were left to rot on the cross.

This argument is completely invalid. The mob wanted him crucified. Not the romans. Once the crowd dispersed, the romans had no reason to desecrate His corpse. Pilate gave permission for joseph to take his body. The romans didn't bury him (which is ignorantly what the originally posted blog is claiming to refute). What ridiculously uninformed "history."

So Pilate, who we historically know was a hard ***, is going to cave to the request of his subjects?

Also you're the one that believes a guy came back from the dead, is divine, can walk on water, etc.

Same to you.

I don't celebrate the religious aspect of this holiday, but I ate some damn tasty ham and had a great time with some family I hadn't seen in a while today.

You aren't well versed of Pilate's tenure if you have to ask this question. "Cave to the request of his subjects" is exactly what he did, especially after Jewish opposers threatened him with opposition to Caesar.

Not sure why you responded to me with that link.

It contains no new or relevant information to the point that Pilate did in fact cave to the demands of his subjects, primarily out of fear of displeasing Rome (Caesar).

I'm sorry. That dude may have a lot of pretty titles after his name, but his repeated labeling of pilate as a "ruler" immediately and emphatically discredits whatever *** regurgitation that follows.
You believing that a dude could turn water into wine and was born of a virgin immediately discredits any rational thought you may form.

Way to deflect. You heathens continue to try (and fail) to master that art.
I'm sorry. I believe I will trust Ehrman who has dedicated his life to the subject and is considered an authority on the subject over some random dude on the internet.

The thing is, eventually we'll know if the Christians are correct, or the atheists are correct. Or if the Zoroastrians are correct.

Hate to break it to you but when you're dead and your brain is destroyed, you're not going to know anything.

Surely you don't think it's greater than what happened on June 24, 2010.
