Just registered to donate and I guess they are sending me a cotton swab kit to use and send back and then hopefully I will be a match for someone.

Has anyone ever done it? Hurt? Do you get to meet the people you donate to? Does insurance cover the hospital stay? Any insight would be great. Thanks.

Haven't had one personally, but was with my dad for several that he had. Per his experience, some hurt like hell, some hardly at all. It depended entirely on the nurse/tech drawing it and how quickly they aspirate it.

He said the best was a guy they called "Bone Marrow Bob" at the Myeloma Institute in Little Rock. So if you ever have to donate, ask for Bob.
Has he ever had a chance to meet the recipients?

My wife used to work as a nurse on a pediatric bone marrow transplant unit. She met several recipients, but never the donors. Normally the donor and recipients did not meet (unless they were related/already knew each other). There are ways to get around that, but it has to be by agreement of both parties.
