Has anyone ever went to an away game by themselves? Is that just sad?

I am really contemplating flying into for the game on Saturday. If i book my flights out today, I can do it for about $900 and hotels, since it is a city, are not bad.
My daughters 4th birthday party is on Sunday, and my wife hates football, so she doesn't want to go. (ill be home on saturday night at 11)

I would just walk to the game by myself. Where is the Penn State section in Ohio Stadium?

Not sad, unless we lose!

I attended a game at Kinnick many years ago by myself. I had just moved to the Twin Cities and my wife had no interest in going. Drove down through Iowa and had a good time. Talked to a bunch of Penn STate fans in attendance and had zero problems at the stadium. This was in the 1980’s when Iowa fans had not yet turned into the knuckleheads of today.

Just go to the damn game. Find some PSU fans, and strike up a conversation. Soon you’ll have a passel of new friends. Probably better than the ones you presently have.

I went to a Mastodon concert by myself once because no one wanted to go. It was incredible; they played all of Crack the Skye album and if I missed it I would have kicked myself.

The pit was kind of dangerous so I stayed away from that. Kind of like where you're going. I would advise neutral colors and maybe just a PSU hat you can take off it if gets hot.

My wife said "don't be a *****, I go to concerts by myself all the time" haha.
(I had some teeth knocked out in a Cro Mags pit once)

And yeah, i am not going to roll up with full on gear. Just a hat. (if i go)

Smart man. If you run into the wrong people at the wrong time by yourself it could get nasty (big-mouth cowards). Don't be afraid to run away. It's not as shameful as ending up in the hospital/jail.

Yeah, those pesky practical details like avoiding ending up in a hospital, prison, or the morgue. I have a friend who is a Cowboys fan. He told that he was going to wear his Cowboys gear to an Eagles/Cowboys game at the Linc. I pleaded with him not to do it. I'm glad that I convinced him not to do it.

I went to the Illinois Friday night game 3 or 4 yrs ago by myself. And to Rutgers last year. Is super easy to find ppl to hang with.

As others have said, go to the game. You will find PSU folks tailgating to strike up conversations with as well as in the stadium. When PSU wins you will be really glad you were there.

If you want to go, just go.

I have been to away games by myself- in some cases, it's actually more fun, since you don't have to rely on other people.

So true, ever since my decision to make you a PSU “internet friend” I’ve never before felt as humiliated, ashamed, disgusted and personally repulsed by myself as I presently do. And I’m fully aware that I don’t deserve anything better.

At least you can get away from me. I’m trapped.

😞

I took my wife and kids to a Luke Combs concert at the Linc this summer and wore my Braves hat. On my way in the parking attendant took my credit card and while handing it back looked at me and in the most Chris Rock tone possible said "Wait. Is that a fluckin Braves hat?" We all broke out into laughter.

I've worn Braves gear to Phillies games for 20 years and never had an issue. My last game was pre Covid. I think this brand of new Phillies fans might take issue with it these days.

Also made a couple of trips out to Iowa from Chicagoland at the same time. Same experience, no issues whatsoever!

I went to the Wisconsin game in 2021 alone and it wasn't a big deal. Hell, if I stayed away from doing things and going places because I didn't want to do it by myself, I'd never do anything fun. I was fortunate after that game to run into a co-worker as we were leaving the stadium and it was fun living it up in Madison and hearing the PSU fight song being played on a sound system in one of the bars.

Life is too short. Do what makes you happy. If you wife doesn’t mind, go have a good time.

Glad to hear it. Everyone should be able to enjoy themselves and be safe. Then again, I would expect you'd be safer wearing a Braves hat to a Phillies game than full Cowboys gear to an Eagles game. :)

I certainly can handle myself, though, after seeing some stuff in my younger years, I like to avoid conflict at all odds.
(btw, I am friends with a large crew of ICF west ham supporters. Never a dull moment with them."

I generally approach it like "dude, I respect your team, I am minding my business, I am going to keep walking" usually that does the trick.

I actually wear hat and t-shirt but I'm also tall and wide. (Way wider since I hit 40)

Anyway, funny story. We're sitting in the 300 section behind home plate and a foul ball comes up towards us. The guy in the front row near us attempts the catch but drops the ball to the crowd below and the entire stadium booed him. Between innings, the guy left his seats and comes back with both hands full of food and drinks. Me, being the smart-*** that I am, shouted "hey don't drop all that food"! Our entire section had a good laugh and he did as well.

Weird parallel to this I am looking forward to watching the game solo this weekend. Wife is on work travel, MIL is in town to help with the kids, and I don’t have any dad duties when the game is on. And when I say ‘solo’ I mean with all of you in the Official Game Thread…

damn od, damn bro

The only logical conclusion of keeping it real is violence. The only conclusion of violence is pain and legal consequences. I'm a licensed professional and would lose my income.

Fighting random people over nonsense is more shameful to me than strategic withdrawal from a bad situation.

You should go while you’re young and have spousal approval. Just don’t miss your daughters b-day, else all hell will happen.

Do you have a game ticket?

I have been debating this same idea. Could drive out Friday, get a hotel, watch a W and drive home after the game.

My Eagles/Dolphins tickets Sunday night are the biggest holdup right now. Makes it a long weekend.

Wives who hate football.....I'm having trouble with this concept. I've come home to her having bought football tickets more often than she's come home to me having bought football tickets.
My wife hates watching football but surprised me with a trip to the rose bowl. I
Although she did ask way more questions than necessary during the game.
