I can’t put it into the best words but since like early March of 2025 I just haven’t enjoyed listening to him.

His speech has been worse(long searching for words), weird comments, not insightful, etc.

The first 10-11 months he was here felt very different. Obviously losing impacts some but even when we’re not losing it hasn’t felt right.

Anyone else feel the same?

Honestly, I already felt like fans were gonna get sick of hearing him after the first few interviews. Fan base really doesn’t like redundancy from coaches.

Yes. He said he was mad at the coach.
Somebody told me earlier (can't remember who it was) that we need to "do our part" and be good fans right now. So I agree. Let's sit our hands and hum Christmas carols and give polite elevator smiles when Pope passes by. Don't boo. Don't you dare boo, BBN. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. So I think the proper course of action is just mindless, blank staring without any boos, sitting on our hands, and waiting for Jayden Olajuwon to get healthy.

Pope and his $22 million dollar professional roster need us all to be good fans right now.

This is unfair to Pope for me to say this, but I think he was in love with the IDEA of coaching at a program with such a history, and loved taking in all the attention he was getting, but is realizing that there is no school code of conduct that players openly and willingly sign like at BYU. There, kids on a certain level were already on the same page as the coach. They identified with one another as Mormons. This would be the same regardless of religion. And at UK he's not wanting to step outside of the bubble of conduct that he's been living under for so long. I don't evision him saying that, but my opinion is that's what it is. He'll either have to turn into something he doesn't really want to be, in order to succeed here, or he'll leave and possibly go back to BYU or a similar situation.

EDIT: not sure why I thought only Mormons went to BYU :D

See, man? Ask yourself if you’re really trying to actually respond to my actual views? Do you think I want us to sit on our hands? Why do you do that? I’m sure you don’t like when others misrepresent you. And btw nothing I’ve ever said is personally against you. But bro I don’t want our fans being clipped for future recruits or coaches? You don’t have to agree with that, but you can’t at least understand the viewpoint of someone who wants to avoid things that hurt the image of the program? And don’t give me the “well the product on the floor does that even more” because I agree. You act like you have a vendetta against me and I don’t get it.

It’s crazy to hear him so monotone. No emotion, no fire. Like dude, 4 losses where you just got your *** kicked and looked totally disconnected. Capped off by this utterly embarrassing showing and you sit there quietly and calmly breaking down analytics like that is the fixable problem.
He must be shell shocked and isn’t even sure what to do. Or maybe there is truth to some BS before UL game that has derailed this team.
Wow, what a disaster. I am speechless and have never felt like this as a uk fan.

Don't worry about Son of Saul. He's a very weird poster. The dude hated Pope from the beginning. Then suddenly loved him when we were beating Duke and other ranked teams. Now of course he hates him again. That's fine I suppose but he can't stand anyone who disagrees with him in the slightest. He's like this with everyone so don't take it personally. I have him on ignore for a reason.

I understand that my views are very clear and I don’t shy away from them in the least but I’ve always made clear that the things I advocate for are not personal attacks on any poster. All I can do —- never gonna be quiet about the opinions that I put in the effort to earn.

It kills me to see this unfolding. I really, really wanted to see Pope have major success here. I like the guy. But I think he's already dug himself a hole deep enough that he may never be able to climb out of it. He was already struggling bigtime when it comes to recruiting. And after this horrendous start to the season, that problem is only going to get worse. I mean what talented kid would want to come play here with us looking like this? The 2026 signing class is going to be abysmal. Therefore the only chance Pope has is to make a killer haul in the portal and set the world on fire next season, so that he can make the program attractive to recruits. But he must do a 100x better job of addressing our team's needs. He needs to be able to go out and get the right players. He did a good job of that when he was hired. He didn't bring in superstar athletes, but he did bring in kids who could shoot and cared. They complimented each other well. They were a team. But his next portal class was just abysmal. The guys he really needed all went elsewhere. And the guys he brought in are pretty terrible. They have no chemistry and they can't shoot at all. I think it is going to be incredibly hard for Pope to overcome this and turn things around. And it may get so bad that he won't even get a chance to redeem himself by getting another season. This is just bad. Really bad.

I really don't give a rats *** what your definition of a fan is. If constantly pissing, moaning, and being an absolute miserable prick is what it takes to be a fan in your eyes, then I'm content with you not thinking I'm a fan. You have to have an absolutely miserable life.
Not that deep. Passing judgement based off basketball. Lmfao, but i’m the “miserable prick”. Seek mental help.

He recruited them all.
So he’s supposed to go to the post game and say he recruited crappy shooters? Good luck with that.

Pope deservers alot of blame. Who said he doesn’t ?? Say “Pope sux” 100 times a day if it makes you feel better.

No he needs to figure out how to use them. Getting slammed by 30 while shooting 20% from the field is a joke. He deserves all the blame.

We are heading for a .500 type season with no momentum in recruiting. It’s very hard to imagine the uk administration justifying staying course or year 3 would be even worse. And in today’s game you can’t wait until the end of the season to evaluate as you are putting the next coach that much further behind. Hate to say but we may have to cut bait by midway of SEC play at best, roll with an interim and get the coaching search underway.

I really thought pope would do great here but it’s obvious he won’t. You just can’t have things fall apart this quickly and recover. If I were in charge the wheels would already be in motion, it is that bad.

Exactly. We have guys that can play. Coach isn't maximizing their talent; he's leaning on his system. He hasn't shown willingness to adapt or adjust. Square peg meets round hole

Can he utilize elite talent or is he better suited for a smaller conference? If he got a prime Anthony Davis, would he let him be AD or would he turn him into just another system player?

I’ll let you and some others do a deep dive on why Pope should be gone. And then I’ll re-read the same takes over and over and over. On second thought, I wont as that’s insanity. Have fun.
Didn't say fire him. Said these problems (in my opinion) look 100% coaching-related and he desperately needs to right the ship.
I'm not sure what your angle is here

Did you ever get help? You said as plain as day in the Paddock that you struggle with depression. Its no laughing matter and I highly doubt this helps. My sister battled with it and was most comfortable (and destructive) when she surrounded herself with negativity. Good luck on your journey.

Honestly…I think Pope is a great coach…he proved it last year. In his 1st year he lucked out with putting the right pieces together in a short-time…and it worked out…w/o the injuries that team would have gone further in the tournament.

Put something has going seriously wrong that has destroyed the culture of this team. I now believe this is worse than KP at UofL…because EVERYBODY knew KP sucked…but Pope is going to get a 3rd year because of his 1st year. The UofL would have died if KP got a 3rd year.

Yes. He said he was mad at the coach.
Pope has always been very good about taking the blame on himself and off his players.

Which I now think has gone too far and become a problem. Stop always being such a nice guy. Right now this team doesn’t need a coach to be their friend and cover for them, instead they need a hardass who’ll kick their *** into gear.
