Has there ever been a better time to be a UK fan?

I've been around a while, including the end of the Rupp era (grew up two blocks away from the Baron) and I can't remember ever being as excited about this program....and having so much more access to info and highlights (cable, internet) only seems to intensify the experience of being a fan....It's truly Big Blue Heaven in the bluegrass these days!!!

Just out of college and in my own place, I thought the mid ninety's were pretty special too. We dominated on an epic scale with Mashburn thru Shepherd. We should have won three straight from '96 to '98. Could have won in '93 had Mash not fouled out against Michigan. Hard to argue against the present, though, for sheer excitement and wins. A perfect season speaks for itself, if they're able to do it.

'48-'51 3 titles, 2 back to back
'93-'98 4 FFs, 2 titles, 3 straight title gms
'11-'15 3 FFs, 1 title, 2 title gams I'd say Cal and Co. Still have work to do to top either of those two other eras.

Three great runs.

A championship this year trumps the '90's...

...and the marvel of 40-0 would make it at least equal to the '48-'51 days, I'd say.

Well I was a UK senior in 1978 when the football and basketball teams went a combined 40-3, and the basketball team played in two championship games in 4 years and won one. That was a pretty darn good time to be a UK fan!

Now would be better if our football team would start winning. At least we have optimism about that now. And we also have so many other sports where UK is excelling, including women's basketball and softball, baseball, golf, soccer, and even rifle and cheerleading. UK is an overall brand now in a way it has never been before!

Fall of 07.. great football and we were excited about the promise of new coach Bil----aw shoot, can't finish that sentence.

I think the 93-99 era was a good one too- Good bball (across 2 coaches), Tim Couch. And until Cal gets his 2nd, that era wins because 2>1.

Like someone else alluded to, the access to the team (ESPN, ESPN.com, KSR, RR) is unparalleled and in 1080p, so it's a lot of fun, especially for those of us who live out of state now.

92-99 was pretty special. That was 8 years of being one of the 3-5 best teams in the country each year. With a championship this year, it surpasses that run for me.

You bet. Never been better and we are seeing it in 1080 lines of resolution.

I have died and gone to Kentucky heaven.

I will remind people.. We have been to 4 of the last 5 elite 8's, 3 of the last 4 final fours, and 2 of the last 3 title games.. Not counting what is to come of this post season.. This is the best time to be a wildcat fan

If UK can win the title this year, and go 40-0 while doing so, it will be the best run of my lifetime. (Born in 1980). 93-98 was pretty majestic, but 2010-2015 would top it if we pulled off history.

Yes. When Rupp first started winning titles it had to be better. America was great back then and not full of the deviants, misguided, and entitled that it is today.
I so wished I had lived during those times.

Well, I was alive then. In truth, there has not been a bad time to be a UK fan. Minimal downs but the highs are just phenomenal.

April 6th, 2015!

UK basketball has had a number of great periods, the late 40's/early 50's, '75-'78 when they won a NCAA runnerup and title, the late 90's, and currently where we've got a runnerup, 3 Final 4's a title, and now an undefeated regular season. A 2nd title, and 9th overall would seal the deal though as UK basketball best era especially with the depth of completion now days. And hopefully it won't be over for a least a few more years.

I think we're on the same page about certain issues... but I can't help but note the irony of your post.

Born in 1960, and have lived through some great times and some not so great, the late Sutton years followed by probation being the worst. But there have been lots of great times, I have witnessed 4 championships and have seen some great players pass through. The down years will never be forgotten, but they make great years such as we are having lately even sweeter, and I for one can appreciate it more having gone through both the good and bad. And so no, these are the " good ole days " for me.

That is understandable. It was my name change at the beginning of the Cal era. Wanted to get away from the dark days of The Anchor and BCG.

Challenges come and go, but anytime is a good time to be a Kentucky fan. It doesn't come down to 1 game, 1 month, or 1 season. We have 8 championships for a reason.
