Has there ever been a more unimpressive 66-0 victory?

The fact WVU couldn't blow this team off the Los in the running game should be the walking papers for Matt Moore.

The breakdowns by their defensive secondary allowed for 7 on 7 type pass plays.

Y.A.C was a positive.

Greene was a positive. Neal kinda sounded disappointed Greene made plays?

How do not have GG and Brown in the game at same time?

If this is a G5 team we don't crack 30.

Long way to go.

I didn't see the game but come on, WVU wins 66-0 and we say it's not good enough? Come on.

If Leddie got stuffed but the rest of the offense did really well maybe that means LIU decided they were going to key on Leddie and force other WVU offensive weapons beat them and then that's what happened. WVU has what appears to be a quite good VT opponent next week. Let's see what happens.

I will say that although I didn't see the game, by looking at the numbers and seeing how well Greene did rushing-wise it wouldn't surprise me if WVU started playing Greene during non-blowout time just to give opposing defenses more to think about. It's amazing Leddie does so well running (other than today I mean) when those read options are obviously almost always going to go to Leddie since Doege can't or won't run the ball.

I don’t think Doege is our best option at QB and I honestly don’t think Leddie is our best option at runningback.

I'm not sure all the blame needs to go on Moore.

LIU's defensive line averaged maybe 250-260 and we couldn't move them. That has more to do with functional strength than technique.

Yes, the line doesn't fire off the ball with purpose. They sit and "catch" the d-linemen who are beating them off the snap and dictating the line of scrimmage. Both games this year that has happened. VT's d-line will be one of the best WVU faces this year - a combination of Maryland's size and LIU's speed.

WVU needs to take a serious look at Mike Joseph's methods. One thing to give him credit for is that they don't lose players to injury often and that has been a hallmark of his time here. The biggest negative is that the linemen are slow and weak, and overall weakness of everyone from receivers on down.

It's basically the difference between powerlifting and pilates. Both will get you stronger, but when you need to pick up a truck off somebody, one will give you a lot more ability than the other. That raw strength is what WVU seems to be missing across the board right now.

Disagree completely.

The backup QB is always the most popular player amongst the fans. He ran all over LIU's defense because they weren't prepared for it at all. That wouldn't be the case against VT or any B12 opponent. Greene would have to throw the ball well to open that side of his ability up. Didn't really get the chance to see that much against LIU. What we did see wasn't anywhere near good enough to complement his running ability.

WVU can only run decently out of 11 personnel. Decently at best because nobody respects Doege to pull the ball and carry it. Even when he does he's so slow it's only a 3 yard gain at best anyway. Thus, the focus is on stopping Leddie Brown and both Maryland and LIU won the line of scrimmage by both outplaying and overwhelming the offensive line with numbers.

Until Doege can hit the long ball (20+) with any consistency and WVU receivers can win one-on-one matchups, WVU will continue to face 8-10 men boxes and 0 coverage. Greene can't run out of that and neither can Brown.

Don’t totally disagree but I just think some mobility at the QB position will force defenses to change the way they face our offense.

When you have a running QB and a good RB in the backfield at the same time, defenses can plan for it all they want and it can still be hard to stop. Doege cant hit the long ball and sucks under pressure. He's not the future. At this point, I would prefer to let Greene get the reps to see how much he can grow as a player. Doege has shown that his growth isnt happening. Greene has a higher ceiling, so, imo, thats who you go with. But Brown probably wont until the season is all but shot. I cant see us having a good year with this OL and a QB who crumbles under pressure. Greene's best pass was a long one after he spun out of a sack that Doege would've went down easily on. Thats all I need to know.

I agree with all you wrote. If you're gonna lose, lose with youth. Saturday's game will perhaps be the most telling of Brown/Doege's career. If Doege can't move the ball or produce points its time to switch and let the chips fall where they may.

Absolutely. But 2nd and 12 and 3rd and 10 are a whole lot harder to get with your feet than through the air. Until Greene proves he can hit downfield throws consistently he'll face a lot of loaded boxes and man coverages with spies.

Basically, its the same thing VT has right now - a QB who is extremely mobile, decent underneath, but not that good downfield. Might be a real interesting game if Greene gets in Saturday - two teams with essentially the same style and ability QB's.

Perception is key. Bama didn’t look like #1 team in the nation against Mercer.

We could have scored 90. Saturday is the day that Neal/Doege and Green has a chance to do something special.

And Doege has given you confidence he can move the ball through the air efficiently? Doege has garbage accuracy and routinely misses the the 20 and beyond throw. If the best WVU can do with Doege is struggle for a 6 win season, I'd trade that for a 4 win season where a player that can actually contrubute to the future gets experience.

I understand where you are coming from and completely agree. However, until Doege loses a couple of those games, which is certainly possible/likely, there won't be many Greene sightings except for a series or two of largely scripted plays and a condensed playbook.

Still, what everyone is basing their opinions on is a few series against an inferior opponent. We don't see what happens in practice everyday. Brown goes with Doege for a reason and you can't really go by coachspeak or by what the fans want or think they see as to who plays and who doesn't.

If Doege comes out firing a big goose egg or two, bench him and play for next year. But, let's give him the opportunity to lose his starting spot before anointing the backup the team's savior. There is still a lot of season left to play, a good bowl game certainly isn't a stretch at this point. Let's hope Doege can get us there. If he can't, then Greene gets a half season or so to get accustomed and comes back next year even better.

I can't speak for everyone, but my stance has nothing to do with Greene's play in the most recent game. It comes from Doege's performance over half of last season and the start of this season. Even in this game the problems with Doege were apparent. No pocket presence, zero foot work (which is not the same as a "running QB"), inaccurate passing especially on deep balls trying to hit a player in stride, and taking sacks he shouldn't. All of this is why I don't feel much better after this game because if a below average P5 team were out there, Doege looks every bit as bad as he did at Maryland. And if the Maryland game is what we can expect for Doege, which is basically how he's played for the last 5-6 games he has started, there is no season left to save. If Greene is so much worse than Doege, then light Crowder's redshirt on fire. We'll see next week and I'd love to be wrong, but a 5th year senior with at least 5 consecutive starts of subpar play is a concerning pattern.

Definitely everything you stated is the truth about Doege.

But, all that being said, you can't just throw away the season after one loss (Maryland).

If after VT and Oklahoma - fine. You're going into B12 play 1 and 3 against teams Greene may be able to win against as well as develop at the same time. But, to throw him to the wolves so to speak is a bit premature.

Hopefully, Doege will prove us both wrong. I don't see it and I know you don't either but until then, as the saying goes, the ball is in his court and its time to win or take his seat on the bench.

I sure hope everyone realizes that what a player did against Long Island is meaningless against Virginia Tech, Oklahoma and the Big 12 schedule. Neal Brown played just about everybody and won 66-0. If it's the Little Sister of the Poor that's still impressive.

Ask yourself this: How many times can Greene run with his less than stout body and survive an entire season. Balance is the key. Maybe Doege and Greene alternating can provide the balance.

If I were an Alabama fan, I wouldn't be too worried about not beating Mercer 100 - 0. Bama always seems to beat those random Southern schools by fewer points than you'd expect. It's like Saban tells his players to use those games for extra reps and nothing else. I think that because Bama tends to beat those teams by 35. They also beat teams like Auburn, LSU, UF, Ohio St, MSU, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Ole Miss by 35.

So Bama earns some grace when it comes to coasting. WVU and Brown haven't earned that luxury. Win 6 NCs or even a Conference Championship and I'll be confident that that 45-14 win over James Madison isn't an accurate portrayal of the team's ability. Until then, I gotta believe that those types of games are sadly WVU throwing its best punches.

Hold on, so LIU is so pathetic that every performance is meaningless, but you also think fans were irrational when they complained about the how poorly the 1st half was played? How senile can you be? Did sniffer Joe take over your account?

Our best option at running back hasn't been cleared by NCAA Eligibility Center / Clearinghouse. Possibly another Tevita Finau.
