Hopefully this is okay to post here and this may be a longshot given the last minute notice...

I have an extra ticket for tonight's game in Section 110. Offering it free to a Cats fan--must be a recognized member / frequent poster. Please send a PM if interested.

I think the Smithee wants it, and I am trying to call him.

Thanks, FloridAlum! This is Ishmael's son, by the way. You should already have my contact info if you want to direct him my way so that I can e-mail him the ticket. Longtime lurker, very infrequent poster :)

Also, I am fairly sure that only a paid member of the board can initiate a PM, but you can receive one and reply.

Tell Smithee to buy you a drink for me, Ishmael was a legend and very much appreciated by us long-time posters here.

I sat with Ishmael and his son at the Alamo bowl after the 2000 season. Ishmael passed away a little more than a year later.his son is also a great guy, and I know him from coming to at least two or three purple parties. I did not realize it was him when he put up the initial post. Anyway, he emailed me the ticket which I forwarded to Alan Smithee. They will be sitting together. I will be on the sofa with the remote.

I would also add that the real Ishmael was not like the board Ishmael. He was an extremely nice person and a real gentleman. His son was also an undergraduate assistant for the football team during the Barnett era.

I wasn't sure what Ishmael's ties to NU were, just that he felt that the program was doing it right. He was Gladesbombing the message boards before Gladesbombing was invented. I also liked one of his other handles, Pontificator.

The real Ish was a real gentleman, immaculately groomed and soft-spoken. He was a graduate of Princeton, son of Ish went to Northwestern and worked with football team. Dad became a big fan. It is easy to say in hindsight that hebknew when I met him that he had cancer and his time was probably limited, although he certainly looked perfectly healthy, and he wanted to make sure he got his message across while he still had some time left. But really a Nice guy, smart and funny, when I met him at the Alamo bowl the first thing I asked was where was his soapboxand why did he not bring it to the game. He thought that was pretty funny

Hey, DaCat, I clicked on the "Like "on your last post, but that doesn't mean I really liked it. Under your avatar it said likes received total was 999. I couldn't stand it. It was just staring at me yelling click me, click me,get me to 1000. I could not control myself, had to do it

I just liked a SadCat post because he had zero likes and I thought that if he had one he wouldn't be so sad.

Bravo, well done, don't think he will be sad when Smithee keeps buying him drinks and hotdogs, not to mention a big Cat victory.

His posting was but a crude precursor of the Gladesbomb(T).

The true Gladesbomb was like the neutron bomb in that Topic viewers were affected without any effect on Thread viewers. It involved posting something stupid to the last threads on the board in Thread view or Topic view, causing those threads to be moved to the top of the list of topics in Topic view. Thread viewers were unaffected. It was only dropped once here (a tiny Gladesbomb), and the results were amusingly effective, with Topic viewers pleading with me to stop while Thread viewers were wondering what they were complaining about. It was the ultimate weapon against lowly Topic viewers.

It's nonselective when done on the Scout board or on this board now. I don't know if there is Thread view here, but you don't need it anymore with the quote feature on this board. Anyway, Gladesbombs have been stored away only for possible use against the Scout Illinois boards.
