Comparing Hawthorne to Ament is not out of the question because they both have almost same physical stats right now,
Hawthorne is not the same player today that he was in July - 7 months ago- after practicing against a very deep experienced SEC team if he’s not ready now - WHEN?

If he wants to play now he should . Let the next three years take care of itself. We don’t know what the future holds . But we Know for sure if he can ball we need him now . Difference maybe in an early exit and elite 8 .
If he does not want to give up the redshirt to help the team when we desperately need him respect his wishes . If he plays this year he should get minimum of twenty minutes a game IF he earns it . If it’s a disaster . Sit him . But give him the chance if he wants it .

Nate Ament was ranked as the consensus 4th best player in a loaded class. Completely different situation.
I don't think anyone is saying he should be as good of a player as Ament. But Ament is super thin & not strong, yet has found a way to be the 2nd best player on UT. Hawthorne has the same body type as Ament, and while not top 5 FR, is top 50, so is skilled too, so he should be able to at least contribute despite his frame.

The only point of a red shirt in today’s game is getting an extra year. I’m sure he’s compensated more than me for his commitment to Ky.
Extra year = extra pay. It’s a business now but this is a Kentucky kid that I believe is jumping at the bits to get out there.
Kam Williams is out Pope needs to make a decision that is best for the team. Play Hawthorn!
Trent Noah could get more mins but he’s really hurting himself. He never shoots, can’t get space, can hardly play D, and makes bad decisions lately.
Can he step up and help with Kams role? Idk
But as a back up if he can’t do it then let Hawthorn play.
We have no way of knowing if Hawthorne is what is best for the team or if he is better than any option on the team, he is redshirting for a reason and making a decision for the team goes beyond just this year. His job is to do what is best for his players too and I am confident they will.

Noah is locked and loaded to replace Kam's minutes. No need for Hawthorne unless a few more guys go down.
Hawthorne moves well and has length. He can actually challenge shots out on the wing. I think at this point you burn the RS and give it a shot. Noah is in a real funk out there and isn't playing like we need him to on either end.

I hear ya. I had kinda forgotten that Hawthorne is a top 40 player in what has turned out to be an absolutely loaded class. Kid probably can contribute.
